Hey guys, remember when you played Half-life 2 (hopefully) and you had to travel through the wastes? I mean driving down a foggy english looking coastal highway full of abandoned houses just really hit me right on the spot. That Trans-Apocalyptic scenery really gets me. I really hate games like Fallout because they get too Apounkalyptic and "Epic", i like this thing with recently abandoned/well preserved buildings, driving around in a car and stopping to look for things like ammunition and health packs, all those small puzzles of fixing shit. I really want a game with a simmilar atmosphere, that one-moment-of-solitude-the-next-your-fixing-something-or-fighting-aliens/sabotaging-evil-alien-tech.

Are there any Half-life 2 mods, or games with that atmosphere? Cataclysm dosent count, i cant live into the atmosphere, and solitude is a joke in that game.

Stalker. Although it has no vehicles. But it nails the sense of isolation, and for a while, scarcity. Call of Pripyat adds the "spectacular" atmosphere that Shadows of Chernobyl lacks somewhat.

"Journey" on PS3 looks fairly theatric.  Didn't play it, but browsed a few videos.

Morrowind, if you've never played it.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the west is decent from what I can remember. It's a retelling of Journey to the West, lots of ruined buildings and overgrown streets.
The Day Z mod for ARMA 2 is probobly going to be your best bet though. It has pretty much everything you're looking for.

Pathologic might be an opition, but again no cars. It's about a plague ravaged town where people have become all but beasts out of desperation. The game makes me sad though, it's extremely flawed and the engine feels like it coppled together with yarn and sticks.

Strange suggestions:
There's a whole bunch of Sci-fi games that do this sort of setting, sans vehicles again. Alien Versus Predator Classic 2000 and AvP2 do this great. There's a couple of those "run and gun" top down shooters like Alien Swarm, Alien Shooter and Shadowgrounds which might also have vehicle sections.

There's "The Path" which is one of those small artsy indie games. You run around a giant forest and look at ruins and relics of past-life while your character does a little narrative. I guess Dear Ester would also fit in here, though I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for.

Wasteland. (It's not Fallout.)
It's not Fallout in name only.

There are mods that add vehicles but they're not that great. The zone is too small and filled with deadly traps for them to be useful. The atmosphere has a "decayed" look to it, like the buildings have been deserted about 10 years ago at most.

Ehh, not. It's very different, and it has a very different atmosphere :/.

Day Z is the Arma mod which has it. It has quite a terrible engine, but the atmosphere is great.

Day Z sounds like it fits what you'r looking for pretty well. Lot of isolation followed by bursts of excitement.

Amazon is having a sale right now on Combined Ops box set. Here it is.

If you don't mind tactical top-down rpg affairs, Krater may be worth a look. Not exactly everything you asked for, but  it seems to the almost lush post-apocalyptic atmosphere that part of HF2 makes me think of.

Can't we just settle on "Fallout is the successor of Wasteland"?
