For the people who keep saying 40k figures, easy solution - stop playing warhammer. It's on its way out, anyway. (Though it will take a LONG time, they had quite a stranglehold with no decent competitors for a while, but they've already completely lost several gameshops I know about)

Everyone plays that... other game now. The one with the name that always escapes. Its amazing going to wargaming cons and seeing the 40k section getting smaller and smaller every year. Probably because their competitors are, like, less than half the price.

Definitely doesn't have the sheer quantity of lore yet.

Edit: Warmachine, that's it!

All the food in amusement parks ever, especially Disneyland, is mad overpriced. $3 for a bottle of water that I could have bought for less than a third of that price? Just.. no.

The car I bought my ex. I did it anyway because I was so frustrated with her insanity in picking a car.

She refused to try to drive anything that wasn't black or purple and cute.

From what I remember, Disneyworld and Epcot were remarkably fair priced. It's the gate fee that kills you.

As a student, I have to say college itself. Sallie Mae gives me a 9.x% interest rate with the promise of probably upping it to 25% when I start repayment. My college knows it can charge pretty much whatever it wants and people will still pay.

My fiancee's apartment. It's in a suburb outside of my state's capital. >$700 a month (not bad, I guess, but rent in our hometown is $350-450). Another chunk of cash greater than a month's worth of rent as a non-refundable "security" deposit. She went all of May wiath no fridge, no AC, no TV, and no internet. Fridge was broken but the freezer worked. AC was broken. Apartment cost so much that she couldn't afford any of the utilities that the apartment owner didn't provide besides electricity and gas. They have their little campaign promise of "if you have a problem, we'll have it fixed within 24 hours" but they waited the entire month before repairing her stuff.

Oh man, bottled water tends to be even worse than bottled sodas, especially the single bottles. Straight up gallon of water tends to be around or less than 1 USD. The dollar+ priced water bottles are just insane :P

I've been seeing a fair number of restaurants/fast food joints transitioning from free water to the dollar stuff, actually. Gets annoying to have to specify, hum.

Some day I'll actually go and check the how of that stuff's pricing. Maybe it's the plastic or refrigeration that's jacking it up so far (well, and the situation-based price gouging, of course~).

If i had income, god, or any deity you believe in or not, forbid me to have an income, i would spend everything on guitar effect pedals, guitars, amps, and stuff, though my assumptions are that i would stop buying by time i got peavey 6505+ head + worthy cab, custom made guitar and boss pedalboard (with boss equalizer, delay, compressor, mt2, sd-1 and flanger/phaser and wah). Probably if i would but these at my local music store i would lose money too much, like, my music shop has SD-1 for 630 złotych (200 dollars?), while thomann.de has is for 210złotych (50 dollars?), well so probably i look for best deal before buying. I also bought food and stuff at bars, they rip you off, becvause there is no shop in 2 km range, thats in a hotel.

Grah, bottled water. I've seen vending machines, full of bottled water, selling it for $2, right next to free water fountains. The only reason for the high price of bottled water is that people have shown that they're willing to pay it. Any given bottle is probably worth less than five cents.

Most people who buys water in those situations does it because they can't bring the fountain with them, though. Or to have a bottle to fill with free water later. In my experience, at least.

I have bought overpriced clothes in a market in Algeria. I knew darn well that as soon as I opened my mouth the prices doubled (I look a bit like a local, so the sellers couldn't be sure) but, heh, I was in vacations, during the only month a year I can spend with my girlfriend, and she really really wanted me to buy clothes. (I don't buy clothes, ever. I have pants with bleach stains and holes and I still wear them.) I would gladly have paid a fortune just to make her smile.

Clothes cost such a huge amount of money though. I mean, I've seen prices go as much as $25 for a shirt (and I'm sure I could find higher if I just searched around a bit). And those shirts are probably mass-produced or something. I don't actually know how it works, now that I think about it. But I'm pretty sure they're overpriced, if only because the raw materials are so much cheaper.

Other than that, I don't really willingly buy overpriced stuff. I don't have the money for it anyways. Heck, I try to get the cheaper option whenever I can.

Once I start winning more than minimum wage though ... There are a few things I do wanna buy, even if I know they're useless !

Hardback books. There's just something so much nicer about a nice smooth hardback over paper or kindle(eww) versions.

Writing paper/pens and books. Feels nicer to write in a goodly papered workbook rather than the !!value!! A4 lined books.

Printer ink... because I need it to print. But c'mon, £20 for 5ml? Screw me sideways.

At that point, aren't you almost better off just buying a new printer?

Maybe it's just because ever since leaving college my printing volume has gone way down, but I still own the (now) 12-year-old POS printer that I bought for - maybe - $75.
On that kind of timeline, it just seems pointless to even bother to try and find a replacement ink cartridge.

I'd say buying lunch (when I don't have enough time in the morning to make my own) is when I feel ripped off. $9 for a burrito at Chipotle?

That said, it does taste good... just expensive.

Alternatively, circumvent the system with 3rd party ink and some finagling. Doesn't work as well for every printer.

I saw something about an opensource 2d printer awhile back... don't know if anything came of it...
