You dig into the calcium carbonate, but it is solid as far as you can go in a single arbitrary time increment.

return to the spires, bring the CaCO3 we have just dug.
Send the miner robot to the "other side" to remove some dead cells for their carbon and mineral contents.

Explore "south".

Hell if I know.  Pretty humourous suggestion, but utterly useless in the case of roleplaying, if indeed the whole game world was one whole huge ass field of fruit.

hmm, before we go of on adventures maybe we should set up some more automation to work while we do other stuff?

I suggest 4 more circuit makers, another carbon getherer, and a machine to make standardized "nanobot modules" from aluminium and carbon that are thing like finished hulls, manipulators, servos, etc. that can very quickly be pluged in with some circutry and programed to do some task.

This, if we have the necessary materials.

(It's hard not to post in this without geeking out on organic chem so stop me if it gets annoying haha)

Could we use the CaCO3 and aluminum to make aluminum carbide + calcium oxide? From that we could easily get methane -> methanol, and aluminum hydroxide -> aluminum oxide and hydrogen. All very useful, as chemical power sources, sources of buoyancy (whee, nano-dirigibles) and further reagents once we discover more stuff and things.

If so I suggest we set up a facility at the CaCO3/Aluminum interchange - the fact that we're getting our carbon from what appears to be something that's alive makes me slightly nervous. Otherwise I'm with Armok.

I have no idea. My knowledge of chemistry is pretty basic. Wouldn't you need a source of hydrogen to produce the methane?

You return to your spires, but you can only carry a single unit of marble(I'm simply going to call CaCO3 that for now). You produce an additional two circuit makers. You do not have the resources to construct anything else.

The orange material is dead, and was dead when you first discovered it.

Get to work! We're slowly going further and further from our base on various adventures, so we need to build enough spires for our slaves fellow nanites to use when we're not around, and we need to create a battery design also. While at it, I'm going to repeat Armok's commands:

EDIT: Assuming we're getting enough materials to finish up building these.

The hydrogen would come from water.

Try making a small atmospheric condenser from aluminum - it's not worth pursuing if there's none around.

Hold up, according to http://www.mineralszone.com/stones/marble.html marble is composed of between 3% and 30% silica. It also contains traces of magnesium and iron. We must extract these resources, FOR SCIENCE!

I suggest the building of a general purpose smelter.

You'll need some way of heating the material to be smelted. You have your radio/microwave emitter, but the smelter doesn't come with a heat source. Additionally, the atmosphere is unnaturally dry. There is virtually no water in the air. I promise there's a justification for this.

It seems as if having a very limited range is quite the handicap. I propose that we build a pseudo-radio tower which we can gather information about the surrounding area from ( forgive me if this makes absolutely no sense, i have no idea how any of this stuff works)

there is no point with circuit makers when we have no carbon or silicon to make them from ...

we should make resource collectors first, before we decide to spend resources to consume our non-existent resource stockpile.

We should produce:
a) a em radio lense assembly, and attach it to the spire (which was mentioned to generate power enough to run 1 nanite) and use that (to power 1 nanofactory) for our smelter, aluminium shaper, thermal decomoposer, anything else
b) a cell collector+dissasembler, for further carbon, phos, nitrogen, potasium, and small amounts of sulphor

I forgot about the spires, so I'm going to say they're 4 nanites each, just to prevent you from having any deactivate now. I'll be updating next tomorrow, because I'm going to have a big(relative to you, at least) event happening.
