We will have multi-floored structures filled with tiny windmills to generate all our power!

Windmills would be unpractical. ( No resources for a generator). The aluminum spires have been proven to work and provide power though.

At the moment we ain't gonna make much more nanites, and aluminum is cheap to come by. I propose we search for more silica.

You've used up all the nearby silica. You'll need to head somewhere else to search for more. Which direction should you go?

Flipped a coin, and down it is.

You tunnel down into the aluminum. After a few millimeters, the aluminum ends. You have no trouble clinging to the side, but beneath the aluminum is empty air. It has the same composition as the air on the outside. The bottom is orange, and does a poor job of reflecting radio waves, but you can't do any detailed analysis.

Can we make conductive carbon nanotubes? If so, we can build a much longer antenna by hanging it from the bottom side. This should serve as a convenient way down from wherever we are, as a platform for vertical structures, and as a power/communications transmission tower for the longer-ranged scavenger we'd want to make once we get there.

Otherwise, investigate the orange. Determine its chemical make-up. See if it is processable into something less garish.

You go back up to the surface, and use the last of the carbon manufacturing a long nanotube. It reaches to the bottom, and you climb down. The orange substance is composed of dead, elongated cells, with small capillaries running between them. They are similar in composition to the skin cells, but you determine that they also have relatively large amounts of calcium.

Feast upon the CALCIUM, transport it up to our makeshift HQ using the capillaries!
