I'm just using nanite as a colloquial term: micrite or microbot doesn't have the same ring to it or instant recognition. You're not small enough to literally pull apart the silica, but you do have other mechanisms for breaking it. (A hint: your radio transmitter is FM).

You find a dead skin cell, but you, again, can't simply tear the carbon out.

Burn? Would give us both energy and carbon, though probably not usefull.

Also, refine Silica.

You burn the skin cell using your now-microwave transmitter, leaving a small amount of carbon behind.

You try melting the silica, but when it cools, it remains impure. However, the impurities to tend to shift to the top and the center: you might be able to use this.

-Burn Sicilica with Carbon. The oxigen will bind with the carbon, forming Co, giving us Si.
Then use selective melting and throwing away of things to remove impurities.

-Design automatic forge (Basically what we're doing manually now)
-Design biomass decomposer: (Biomass--> energy+ carbon)

((oooh, love these))

What sensors do we have?

> build sensor focus and smaller scale manipulator addon so that you CAN tear out individual atoms, if in very small amounts.

You attempt to purify silicon by smelting the sand with carbon from dead skin cells, but it remains too impure to use in circuitry. You come up with designs for a forge and a cell-burner. You take the silica, and melt it repeatedly, removing the last section to solidify each time. You now have a small quantity of usable silicon, but you'll need phosphorus or boron to dope it.

What's the atmosphere like?

There should be some free boron in the air.

Fosfor should be readily avaible in the human cells, as it is a key component in Dna and several other molecules. Otherwise, no idea. Would probalby rather hard to get though, as it won't be pure, at all.

Design an air refinery to extract boron from the air and use it to complete the other nanites.

do a checmical analysis of the air first to determine elements available in trace amounts (even the cell would have more boron than a large amount of air..)

Hell if I know.  Pretty humourous suggestion, but utterly useless in the case of roleplaying, if indeed the whole game world was one whole huge ass field of fruit.

You need more specifics than "air refinery". You do manage to burn some phosphorus from a number of skin cells- it's enough for two bots, but you've exhausted all the nearby cells. Everywhere else around you appears to be stable. The atmosphere is earth normal, primarily nitrogen and oxygen, with a small amount of trace noble gasses and even smaller amounts of other elements.

thats what i thought. ie, there is no boron source on a slab of aluminim with traces of dust.

Design and build better antenna so we can detect things further away. (it can be stationary, we can drag it with us when we move).

smelt some silicon into a lense and a prism. Use this to do a basic spectroscipc analysis of surfaces in the distance (ie, walls, roof, any large obstructions on our chunck of aluminium)

create 1 gatherer nanite : only capable of basic manipulation, but able to pull many times its own weight back (like an ant).

You have existing frames for a miner and a gatherer bot. Perhaps it would be better to simply finish those?

You smelt some more silicon, but you have no way of producing clear glass at the moment.
