Adventure Mode traps
« on: June 13, 2012, 09:42:00 pm »

If you spot traps in Adventure Mode, do they become safe to walk on? I suspect so, but I didn't want to assume anything.

I should have tried it, I guess. As it turned out, a mummy caught me anyway, as I was escaping with some loot I just couldn't resist.  :)

Has anyone done science on how spottable traps are in Adventure Mode? Eg if you have legendary observer will you see all traps? Does it depend only on your skill or also on, say, the quality of the trap mechanism?

I have evil plans for a purpose-built adventuring fort, but I don't know how many of those will work...

Socks inspire the same sort of emotions in dwarfs that Helen of Troy inspired in the Achaean Greeks. Although it is said that Helen's face launched a thousand ships, socks have surely launched a million ultimately-fatal Store Owned Item tasks.

The important question for that is: will pressure plates (set to activate on weight alone, indiscriminate to citizenship) be set off when detected and step on?

Um, so which is it? Can you be injured in traps you've spotted or not?

If this were the kind of game where it was easy to save and reload, I'd just try it. Indeed, I often do dumb things in those kinds of games, just to see what will happen. But I tend to lose my character quickly enough in DF Adventure Mode, anyway!  :)

Weapon traps don't trigger after you've spotted them. I always walk over them because they're the only tiles in a trapped building that can't injure me.

I wonder if the game has become odd.

Companions don't seem to mind getting cut in half though.

I just tested that, and I can't confirm it. Weapon traps are safe for you and your companions once you spotted the trap.
