Sure that's not adrenaline? I'm not super versed in biochemistry but I don't think testosterone is something that goes up and down based on your activities (more like diet and time of day, iirc).

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Gender is just one of those things that too many people ascribe universal importance to.

Age, sex/gender, nationality, ethnicity, religious beliefs, educational background, philosophical outlook, political leanings, sexual mores, cultural tradition, subculture membership.
Any of these and a bunch more can be a major part of one's personal identity and possible kinship with others... or barely relevant.
Personally, I identify most strongly as a nerd and sex/gender is quite low on the list.

Haven't read the thread. One thing though that I'll say is I was confused as hell in school when I showed off my self-taught boredom in isolation martial skills with a polearm and I was made fun of for 'twirling sticks like a cheerleader.'
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I guess discouraging men to be good with melee weapons because they're cheap and available makes sense on one level, but on mine it made no sense whatsoever at the time.

I suppose it's the uselessness of it outside of making a crowd of civilians more dangerous. Maybe it would be applicable with hockey or baseball but that's about it. I still think it's cool though to pick up a stick and know how to utilize it's balance.

...Being able to spin a stick around does not make you skilled in "polearm martial arts".

Seconded. I'd be happy to teach people to use a naginata or kwandao, though. ^_^

Duuvian, gender roles aren't some conspiracy to keep the masses from revolting. You probably just looked silly and instead of comparing you to Star Wars kid they picked a more gendered insult.

Fair enough. I probably did look like the Star Wars kid  :D I still think it's cool though and I can call it whatever I want. If you don't like it you can cry some more.

Also yes, I do correspondence classes. How much are you offering to pay me?

Pray tell how playing by yourself with a farming implement is different than playing by yourself with a naginata other than a slightly different tip and intended purpose?

I had an old version of this that looked like a glaive.

Oh, that's right, what you said is Japanese so it must be sharper.

Ah. I suppose paying or being forced to learn antiquated techniques is better then.

Also, yes, I hit myself in the forehead once when I was about 13. Exactly that many times (1). Not bad for an entire childhood of playing with sticks. Then I stopped playing with sticks as often and got fat for a while due to playing video games instead. I suppose that's a better way to spend one's childhood alone on a farm. Thanks B12.

Also by sticks I meant various farm implements on a pole. At school the one time was an actual stick but at home it was tools.

What, no, exercise and stuff. Just actually hit things with sticks instead of swinging them around in the air.

I'm not liable for anyone you kill this way.

Well, if you want to protect against home invaders, a polearm is much more badass than something silly like a gun.

Though not practical for protecting yourself against things like muggings or supervillains.
