Help playing the game

Hello fourm,

I had just downloaded "Dwarf Fortress" and started a new world to play the Fortress mode.
I had no clue whatsoever on how to play so I open the help menu and read everything but i still don't get it.
I've searched guides but they don't help.
That's why i came here.
I don't know what to do at the beginning or how to command the workers.
Help would be appreciated.

I'm a "noob" and need help.

You can pretty much ignore the help menu, it's fairly worthless right now.  The wiki, the forums, and maybe some IRC channels have what you need.

Listen up: making a thing a ‼thing‼ doesn't make it more awesome or extreme.  It simply indicates the thing is on fire.  Get it right or look like a silly poser.

It's useful to keep a ‼torch‼ handy.
