You are a Magic Carpet rider (suggestion game)
« on: June 11, 2012, 05:46:11 pm »

Spoiler: What is Magic Carpet (click to show/hide)

You are a wizard.  THE wizard, now.  It was a long, difficult, and often tedious struggle, but you won.  You "restored the fractured worlds to equilibrium", your dead master said.  Apparently that's guru-speak for "immolated every thing, living or dead, that stood in your way".

It didn't take much to be in your way.  Anything containing mana, that golden essence of magical power, needed to die.  Rocs, trolls, vast crawling wyrms, even the mighty wyverns fell to your spells.  You harnessed their mana, stored it away in your keep, and channeled its power to continue your search.

Spoiler: Priceless (click to show/hide)

It wasn't greed.  You NEEDED the energy to fix everything.  To remake the world from the tiny splinters your master's arrogance had made of it.  The unlimited power and deaths of your rivals were... unavoidable bonuses.

Fortunately, most humans don't contain mana.  Most.  You had no choice.  Civilization is flourishing now, thanks to what you had to do.  Not that they ever thank you.  They don't talk World-Shattering-Wizard-Speak.

Spoiler: Stupid Plebes (click to show/hide)

But this brooding is only a momentary distraction from your main problem...

You are BORED.  No rivals, only a precious few captive monsters, and the land-dwellers are inane as ever!  You briefly wish that you understood their language just so you could properly snub them.

But this is intolerable.  It has been HOURS since you killed something.  You open your mind's eye and peruse your spells, which appear as somewhat vague icons.

How will you proceed?

Throw fake trap mana throughout one of their major villages.

Use the heal spell?  On... them?  :o
You've only ever healed yourself.  You wonder if you can just...
Just sort of reach over...
And...
Nope, didn't work.  You'd need some way to change the target, but again, why would you want to heal those jerks?

Ever since you accidentally volcano'd that one town, things have been pretty tense between you and them.  Particularly after you incinerated that joke of a rebellion they raised.

Speaking of volcanoes...
MAGGGGGGGMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

AKA, the volcano thing

Ah, good old volcano spell.  Not particularly practical, but oh so fun.
But... you probably shouldn't launch it into the town.  You guess?  You begin to wonder.  You ARE pretty bored.

Your castle is plenty far away to be safe.  It's on an island with your "pet" manacrab.  A pet is a creature you keep around so you can kill its young for entertainment, right?  You're pretty sure that's what a pet is.  For wizards, anyway.

Throw fake trap mana throughout one of their major villages.

Fake mana??  You are quite sure you don't have a spell like that yet!  The concept sounds alien, like something from another world.  A netherworld maybe.  Ah, if only the netherworld was a real place that you could go, and not just a silly afterlife story told to scare children.

No, what you have is a Mana Magnet spell.  You also have a fireball spell and an invisibility spell.  But these are different spells and everyone knows spells can't be combined.  Which is why you've never tried it.

Go invisible and see if any of them have the potential to be apprentices. Apprentices are great! You can force them to learn basic spells, loan them a bit of mana, and then make them destroy each other for the privilege of learning a new spell! They might even decide to rise up against you (shooting them out of the sky would provide a momentary distraction) and/or learn enough World-Shattering-Wizard-Speak to understand how much better you are than them! But mostly the forced deathmatches. Watching incompetents fight to the death is almost as much fun as killing things yourself.

Spells are stored in spell jars, of course.  You place an empty one on the ground and study it.  It's just a ceramic pot.  You think you could put a spell into it if you wanted.  Spell aren't physical things but they still need a vessel.

You wonder what would happen if you put two spells in the same pot.

Take on an apprentice??
You are bored to DEATH, apparently.  You're not sure what your master's stupidest move was: shattering reality with experimental magic, or giving you a taste of power.  You never betrayed him because he offed himself before you got the chance.

Still, perhaps a little danger is just what you're craving.  You decide to return to town and see what you see.

While in transit you can mix a spell on your carpet.  Surely no harm can come of experimental magic!

Start with something simple, invisible fireballs.

Do something not too dangerous first, like fireball and shield.

Check to see if we have any mind-control spells.

Or, invisible fireball.
