Non-lethal combat
« on: June 11, 2012, 08:35:20 am »

I just can't wait!

Grumbok the Cateater, the sheriff's constable, swung his training wooden mace Pacifier in a wide arc, hitting bandit's chest, bruising muscles, breaking ribs and jamming them through liver and left kindey.
Gobzo the bandit looks pale.
Gobzo the bandit vomits.
Gobzo the bandit gives to the pain...

The entire content consists of senseless murder, a pile of faceless naked women and zero regard for human life in general, all in the service of the protagonist's base impulses. It is clearly a cry for help from a neglected, self absorbed and disempowered juvenile badly in need of affectionate guidance. What a sad, sad display.

I don't think destroying your opponents kidneys is really that non-lethal :P

My point is that in real-world applications, so-called "non-lethal" weapons like taser, pepper spray, beanbag shotgun ammunition, etc. can sometimes produce surprisingly lethal effects.

US law enforcement therefore uses the term "less-then-lethal"

Also, DF Justice system has no concept of escalation matrix, or equal and appropriate force.

That means X is met with Y
Strong words   -   Strong words
Open hand   -   firm hand
closed hand   -   closed hand/baton
knife   -   incapacitatioon (taser, pepper spray, etc.)
gun   -   gun(s)
DAKKA   -   MOAR DAKKA!!!!  (Ususally only used by ATF)

But then again, where would be the !!Fun!! in Sherrif McNeedsReElected escording Urist McHadAnotherSkinful to jail to dry out (or is that Pickle with Dorfs?) WITHOUT beating him within an inch of his life?

I think you mean "Less-than-lethal" not "Less... then lethal".  ;)

Also, yeah, pick up that can... so making a stunbaton.

I think it's the way towns develop now. In the beginning, people move into a town. Then they start producing tables, which results in more and more tables. Soon tables represent a significant portion of the population, they start lobbying for new laws and regulations, putting people to greater and greater disadvantage...

I think its actually "less lethal" not "less than lethal"...based on what I have heard and I see lots of cop videos.

Also "less than lethal" means the same as "non lethal"

Pacifist run anyone?

Well, you can't really do a "run" of an endless game like DF, but I think you get what I mean.

Pick up that can!

I missed that line the first time.  I was so confused.

You misspelled seance.  Are possessing Draignean?  Are you actually a ghost in the shell? You have to tell us if you are, that's the rule

Every step that brings us closer to taverns with bar fights is a good step.

I still don't understand, how can it be combat if it's non-lethal?

Currently critters will typically fight until one side dies or flees. Now they'll be able to stop earlier so you can just beat the crap out of someone without wanting to kill them.

I once made the batmen race playable, so of course, I decided to go on a Batman run.  Then I realized I would have to kill in order to receive fame for quests  :(

This will make it much better.  Can't wait.

Fighting for fighting's sake does not have to go to the kill. Besides, the more you kill, the less good training partners you have
