Modern Battlezone: A Solder's Experiences
A Text Suggestion Adventure

You wake up to muffled booming in your small cloth cot inside your barrack tent, in the midst of your sleeping squad-mates. You check your watch; it says 6:34 AM. You get dressed and walk outside by Jim, another squad-mate. He observes the desert landscape around you; "Artillery fire," he says to nobody in particular. "Is that what woke me?" you ask, and he notices you. Jim shrugs, and says "Oh, probably."

It's still early in the morning, and you went to bed extremely drowsy last night after your patrol shift was over. You can't seem to remember your name...

You get together a brief mental agenda for today: Figure out your name, and figure out what to do.

Name:Carol Zimms

Go get Our weapons and equipment
Don't want to bring a knife to a gun fight.
Spoiler: OOC (click to show/hide)

You decide to gather your weapons and wake up your sleeping squad-mates. You wake up Kyle Johnston and Bradley Henderson, your two closest friends who are also basic infantry. The twin sisters Ashley and Megan Anderson--sniper and spotter, respectively--wake up when Kyle and Bradley do. Steve, the squad's support gunner, needs a little bit of shaking to wake up, but he gets out of bed. Together, you all, Jim and your squad leader David Clark make a fairly good squad, but you'll all need nerves of steel to get through this war.

You go to the weapon tent and retrieve your equipment, explosives and ammunition.
You, Kyle and Bradley, being normal Infantry, lug around fairly heavy M14s. You each get 6 spare mags, each carrying 20 rounds of standard 7.62mm rifle ammunition. Your sidearm of choice is a Colt M1911A1, but the other two use the standard-issue Five-seveN. Regardless, you each carry 4 spare mags of ammo. You three take 2 M67 frag grenades and 3 flashbangs each.
Ashley grabs her weapon of choice--a Springfield '03 with a scope mounted on top-- and 8 clips. Her sidearm is a 9mm Browning Hi-Power. Megan picks up her spotter's scope and tripod, as well as a Walther P99. Ashley and Megan both carry MP5 submachine-guns when the fighting gets too close. They carry zero grenades. They both take 4 extra mags for their pistols and submachine-guns.
Jim, being an explosives expert, carries several grenades and a few blocks of C4 with him. His primary is a USAS-12 automatic shotgun and a MAC-10 is his secondary.
Steve's basic weapon is an M249 SAW with 4 belts of 250 5.56mm rounds. He carries a Skorpion machine pistol as a secondary. He carries zero grenades.
David is an officer, and as such is lightly armed. He carries a Beretta M9 with 7 spare mags. He was already awake long before the rest of you were. Most of the time, he hides behind cover and moves with the team, but he occasionally pops out and aids the rest of you. He carries zero grenades.

You all arm up and put your armor on. Everybody is struggling with their loads, but they wake up enough to carry it all.

You're still (figuratively) scratching your head over your name. Surely you would have figured out by now, but apparently not...

Remember that our name is David Webb.
That's it! Your name is David Webb. However, you are not comfortable with saying your own name to somebody with the same one, so you call Dave Clark 'Captain'.

Go Snag a AT weapon from the Armory
We Don't what to get pin down by a tank Do we?
You start moving back towards the weapons tent, but the Captain stops you. "We won't be needing anything much more than what we've got right now," he tells you. He makes a hand gesture towards a rocky canyon-type landscape a while away. "We've been ordered to check out a canyon about 4 miles in that direction. Intel says that there are large, mutated insect-type creatures, and some of the Militia around here have been trying to capture them. We have to make sure that doesn't happen." "Captain," Bradley asks, "How exactly do you expect us to get there from here, through all of this sandy and rocky crap?" The Captain points towards an open-bed Army truck with a .50-caliber machine-gun mounted on top of the cab. "That should be enough to get us there from here. And Webb," he says, looking at you, "There are a few heavy weapons packaged in there, already, just in case you were wondering." You laugh briefly, saying "Hoo yeah, this is gonna get interesting." The rest of the squad laughs briefly, as well. The Captain then says, "Alright, enough with the humor. Let's get moving!"

You all pile into the truck. The Captain takes the wheel, and Jim rides shotgun (literally--he is using a shotgun, anyways). Kyle mans the .50cal to keep watch forward. Steve plunks his M249 down on the back of the bed, and protects the team's six-o-clock. Bradley and Megan sit on the right side of the bed, and you and Ashley sit on the left side. You notice that there are a few wooden crates in the bed with the rest of you--some are large and bulky, others are small and light. One is long and skinny; you think it might be an anti-tank weapon.

You are about 2/3 of the way there when your truck is ambushed! Militia start shooting at your team. The Captain quickly stops and draws his Beretta. Steve picks up his M249. Ashley drops her rifle and quickly switches to her MP5. All of you unsling your weapons and start bristling out of the truck.

What do you do?

check that skinny little box for a AT, Then get the hell a way from that truck
You decide to see what is inside the long, skinny box. You pull your Combat Knife from your boot and begin to pry the box open. After a few seconds, the lid pops off. Inside is a long, rectangular-shaped device with several rockets inside; you count 16. You quickly recognize the weapon as an M202A3 rocket launcher, capable of firing either anti-personnel or anti-tank rockets--there are anti-tank ones in the box.

The Captain notices you gawking at the M202, and yells "Webb! Come on! Get in the game here!" and gestures you to get out. There are 7 Militia attacking, armed with various types of weapons, and they are shooting at the truck from the left and right sides. The Captain gives the order to return fire.
Bradley fires off a quick 2 rounds, both wild and they miss.
Kyle manages to hit one Militia in the leg with one shot, and fires two more, both of which missed.
Ashley and Megan fire off quick 3- and 4-round bursts, respectively. Ashley's third shot hits a Militia in the left hand, and he drops his weapon. Megan hits another Militia in the lower body, and that one doubles over in pain and bleeding, dropping his weapon as well.
Steve, being unable to aim properly, fires a long 17-round burst wildly. None of his shots hit anything.
Jim fires 6 shells, but realizes that his shotgun is useless at range. He slings it on his shoulder and takes out his MAC-10, and fires 7 rounds from it. A couple hit a Militia in the right arm, and he shouts in pain as he drops his weapon on the ground.
The Captain fires one shot, but misses.
You aim at the Militia that Ashley disabled. Your single shot hits him in the chest, and falls backward, dead. You are then fired upon by every other Militia in the group.

You consider running from the truck, but with nowhere to take cover and being under fire from 3 sides, you decide against it.

What more are you going to do?

Smirk, for death does not faze you. Start hurling grenades at them.
You quietly laugh to yourself, and mutter "I laugh in the face of danger." Ashley notices you, and says, "Uh, you alright there, Dave?" You quickly snap out of your trance, and nervously reply, "Huh? Er, um, yeah, I'm fine. Perfectly fine. Nothin's wrong with me." Ashley looks at you in a funny way, then ducks as a bullet pings off the side of the truck.

A bullet zips right past your head--you even hear the zoom--and you drop prone. You feel just above your left ear; that bullet took some hair with it! You get very angry. "He shot my hair..." you say quietly. "What?" Ashley asks after firing off another 4 rounds. "That bastard shot my hair!" You then say fairly loud.

You yank a flashbang off the side of your backpack, pull the pin, and hurl it at the Militia on the left side of the truck. "Flash out, left side!" you yell to your team. Ashley ducks, closes her eyes and covers her ears. The flashbang explodes, knocking the Militia with the rifle off his feet. The other Militia with the submachine-gun drops it and crouches, obviously in a bit of pain. You stare at Ashley, and she looks at you briefly, nodding and saying "Take 'em out!" You snap out of another trance, look at the incapacitated Militia, and realize the situation. You nervously reply, "Oh! Yeah, right! Those guys! Yes Sergeant!" Ashley, again, gives you a funny look. "I swear there's something wrong with you," she says. You ignore her, taking aim at the Militia on the ground. "If you go down, you stay down, you rotten Afghan son-of-a-bitch!" You fire, and your aim hits the Militia in the liver. He twitches once, violently, and is still. You assume he's dead.

Ashley fires another 3-round burst at the crouching Militia, just starting to recover from his "flashbang shock". The first round misses, but the second and third hits him in the right arm and shoulder, respectively.
Follow the grenades up with some awe-inspiring hand-to-hand takedowns!
You consider running up to him and sticking your knife into him, but there are still two or three armed Militia on the other side of the truck, and they all have automatic or semi-automatic weapons. You decide not to risk getting yourself perforated. "He shouldn't bother us for a while," you say to nobody in particular.

You move to the other side of the truck, and hurl another flashbang at the Militia. Everybody but Megan ducks before it explodes. The dying Militia with the assault rifle flips over once, and is still; the flashbang did land fairly close to him. All the other Militia keel over in pain from their ears ringing loudly. Megan wasn't fast enough, and was also impacted by the explosion, albeit less violently. With the gunfire stopping, everybody looks at one another, considering whether to take prisoners or not.

What will you do?
