Splintered Ark OOC Thread
« on: June 10, 2012, 09:19:51 pm »

So, here's a thought to throw out there. I've seen lots of forum suggestion games with tons of promise in here recently, but it seems that they tend to die out after a little bit. I know I got burnt out writing my own Terraforming game after a nice little run.

I was thinking it'd be neat to put together a suggestion game where there was a set rotation of GMs. You make your GM post, then you rotate back into the pool of players til your next turn at GM-ing comes up. While this would lead to different styles and whatnot, I think it could work and reduce the problem of having early-game burnout, as you'd only be posting once every few turns (depending on the # of GMs).

Any thoughts on this idea? Any interest? If there are people who want to GM, we could figure out a setting of some kind and give it a shot.

I'd join as a Gm, but it really depends on the shedule.

A Forum succession game?  Sounds awesome!  I'm worried that my schedule won't permit much, but hey, I suppose I could call in sick, and it wouldn't matter.

So yeah, GM Me.

In that case maybe we should decide on what type of game we're going to run. I'd go with everything, but I'm better number based things then story based ones.

So I've heard one vote for sci-fi. How about you're the administrator of a neutral (to start) space station that is a meeting place of the races? It starts out as a little space shack that serves humanity and one other race and could expand from there as more races are discovered?

Any other ideas? I'd say we're good on the number of GMs. I think we can say you have a week to wait for suggestions and write your turn. If you didn't/couldn't get it done in a week, then the next GM would step up and run your turn. Sound fair?

Got some more ideas:

Year: 2356
The earth is being bombarded by constant solar flares. The skies are burning, the oceans are boiling and humanity is preparing to leave for the stars. However, they are running out time. In a desperate attempt to save the human race, the United confederacy has confiscated all spaceships, stations and related technology and bolted it togheter in one large ship. After 2 months of hard work it set out towards the stars, taking millions to safety, but leaving billions behind. However problems soon arise, as resources start to run short , and soon the United confederacy falls and different factions are formed.

Version A:
Hard Sci-fi. No jumpdrive, the focus remains on this one expansive ship, and it's struggle for survival
Version B:
The United confederacy has abandonned most of the ship to fight for itself, and has locked itself up in the expansive engine complex that allows the construction to jump throughout star systems. no signs of live have been given, and people fear that the computer ghost that controls it has gone mad. Recent evidence proves this, as there's no pattern in how long the ship will remain in a given system, making resource gathering dangerous.
(Soft Sci-fi
Version C:
The United confederacy has abandonned most of the ship to fight for itself, and has locked itself up in the expansive engine complex that allows the construction to jump throughout star systems. no signs of live have been given, and people fear that the computer ghost that controls it has gone mad. Recent evidence proves this, as there's no pattern in how long the ship will remain in a given system, making resource gathering dangerous. On top of that, strange phenomena are often encountered. Things that shouldn't be happening, objects moving on their own accord. One of our scientists speculated that the Quantum Space Distortion matrix might be reacting to human brain patterns, while other just call it sorcery or magic. (Sci fi + Jumpdrives+ Mysterious magic(only a bit))

The Ship:

The ship is built from a variety of ships and stations, leading to serious difference in design between parts. The most often occuring are:

Resources:
Food, fuel and energy will be the most sought after resources. Construction material will be sought after to, and will be extremely hard to find.

How would the new GM maintain control of a thread if the old one abandons it, while maintaining a history of the game? Make a new thread and link the old one?

It's a suggestion game. I don't think you need the Op for anything. (Just title changes, but that is'nt really important).

Besides, are we doing one turn each, or some other shedule.

I was thinking one turn rotations, but we could discuss another schedule if that was desired.

One turn each is fine. I vote for hard sci-fi BTW. Speedo be damned.

THis sounds quite a bit like the very failed RTD WARS with multiple GMs.
