KILL THE BASTARDS. BURN EVERYTHING.

Yes, even their resources. Burn it all. Remove anything that was once Ace's.

Also, while you muster another army, keep an eye on the capital. It's totally possible that some toher major power will attack it, and loose, killing a lot of the defenders.

Also, I'd suggest you go and blockade Ace's main port, to interrupt their trade and hopefully seize some merchants ships and their cargo.

Lamentably, I will be going off the grid for a few days so I cannot promise an update until I return.  But fear not, the unfolding tale will continue after this little intermission.  :)  Hang tight!

One thing I find hard about the game is Early-Mid game. Setting up your industrial base is generic, but difficult to finetune and do properly. Setting up a resource base with colonies is also a bloody pain as the AI eats up everything.

Once you get a nice foothold though, you can blow things through with tactical battles on. Except for that bloody fortress with two dozen heavy artillery in it.

it is hard to destroy the artillery/walls, if you can't even get close :(

Nah, you can rush it with plenty of counter-battery fire... somewhat. You still take lots of casualties, but not impossible. The best chance to do this is when you're saving up and just tech'd up. At least then you have stat advantage.

Wouldn't it be smarter to send in just artillery while letting the infantry go in a 2nd wave, thereby limiting heavy casualties? Let the artillery duke it out, THEN send in the footsoldiers.

The problem is siege battles tend to occur in city terrain. Basically, an absolutely horrid, narrow terrain with plenty of chokepoints to slow you down. It also means that you're almost always screwed because every artillery you send gets hit by three or four CBs from the defenders' side. Not to mention that artillery are much more vulnerable to battery fire than other units.

My tactics so far has been to send out cavalry, make sure they stay in the front to absorb as much fire as possible, then send in Light Artillery to take position and hit the enemy. It's a grueling one, and guarantees many casualties, but at least it works. Trust me, WWI becomes a joke compared to late-game fortress battles.

When I zoom out the game crashes in random maps for me. Any advice?

No idea. Doesn't crash zooming out for me, it just randomly crashes. At least the game does autosave.

Sappers can apparently dig tunnels, which would allow them to get close enough to walls to destroy them. Or something. I've never used them, but the read-me mentions them in a bugfix. Alternatively go with Hyo's suggestion. Cavalry should be able to get close enough to fire on artillery, or at least close enough to distract fire when you move your own artillery up. Sure, you'll lose tons of cavalry, but the artillery is the most important unit of your army.

Sappers can dig tunnels. You can only move two spaces a turn(and have to move them one space at a time), and then they can dynamite the walls. I think they promptly get shot to pieces by militia, or some other unimportant issue.
