No, if I recall he is living off imports.

I vote you get your industries going in the event of import-bans, you wont die horribly. THEN slaughter them.

After conquering the savages to the north, expand the economy as much as feasible.

We must destroy the yungjan savages.  It is the only way to show everyone else that Uristia is destined to be ruler of the world!  Despite the fact that I am eager to fight our enemies, we should be cautious and expand our army a little before striking.

I second this. Even if invading a random uncivilized country isn't going to cut off all our imports, self-sufficiency is a goal that we need to strive for.

Prime Minister Seamas ascends the podium in the Uristian assembly:
Countrymen!  The parliament is roaring with fervent debate over the Yungjan Problem.  Your eloquent arguments being made for both sides give me, much to brood upon.  The patriotism of our most militant members is commendable, but so early on in our national ascendancy we must temper our ambitions to meet the reality of the present.  Uristia does, in fact, currently depend upon imports for the raw materials and we cannot alienate the global community.  Yungjan has no allies in the major nations, yet, but this may change, complicating immeasurably the due conquest of those northern savages.

I propose we delay our invasion two years.  The foundations of our economy must be sound before we undertake a war of acquisition, and let it be said that our investments in the military have already cost us a fair penny that otherwise could have been used for economic investments.

Corai has been appointed to Foreign Affairs Minister, due to his even-headed judgement and well-placed family connections in Uristia City.

BTW, thanks for the heads up greatorder.
BTWW, could somebody tell me how to link to individual posts from the initial thread post?  To index updates more easily?

Iīm currently getting the next update ready.

We don't want to crusade before getting our gold supply secured. War costs money. Gold is, essentially, money, and despite the fact our industries may be in a standstill due to embargoes, there's no way we couldn't get rid of gold if we needed to. Prepare more troops in the meantime.

Weigh in, countrymen:

We have a sufficient stockpile of arms and raw materials to either build a frigate (the first in the world, as far as I know), or to raise another unit of heavy artillery which would go a ways to ensure a land victory.  Which should we invest in?  Also, if a ship, whatīs her name going to be?

1820

A year following the discovery of the gold deposits in the central Ironblood mountain range, we completed a deep water port ($3,000) for the export of the precious booty.  The profits from the mine are currently $800 per year.

Our economy has been growing stronger.  Hereīs a glimpse into Uristia City.

Our current import/export regimen, for the curious:

Around the same time, a team of our geologists discovered coal in the hills not far to the Northeast.  This coal could be extracted but it would behoove us to wait until our engineers can build upon swampland.  Once we can do that, a single depot located in the swampland would tap both the iron and coal mines.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

But fortune has smiled upon us!  Another coal deposit has been located in the hills east of Yabonmomi, in the fertile center of our country.  A corps of engineers has been dispatched to lay track southwards through the forest from Uristia City and build a depot at the site.

We purchased this dazzling new technology called a "Cotton Jig" from some foreign eggheads, and I think weīre the first to own it.  Weīll need all the textile output we can get, soon enough.

By late 1819 we had earned quite a bit of cash reserves from our exports.  I diverted this cash into an embassy in Penia.  If they get to know us well enough, they might just jump in bed with the Uristian cause and join our empire.

Current foreign relations:

With our gold supply tapped and our infrastructure rapidly developing, I redirected our efforts towards developing our military.  Heeding Bunnybob and LordSlowpoke, I have raised another unit of heavy artillery, and a unit of cuiriassers (we had to import the horses).

Having accomplished the basics of our first five year plan, we turn our ambitions outward...  War!

Troops are marching towards the border as we speak, under NRDLīs command.

FYI, the minor nations are set up in groups of minor nations that like one another.  Invading a minor nation will hurt relations with the other minor nations in the group, but as far as I know will not affect relations with the minor nations not in the same group.

Good luck with the invasion!  Knock 'em dead!

What are the other minors going to do, cross the ocean on stick rafts and attack us? No no, they are quite isolated from us, no matter how they feel about the Yangjun savages.
