GEH!@ I NEED SHELL!

Stupid fey mood! I have Piles of bone, leather, gems, candy, everything... But not a single turtle in the whole fort!
What is a Dwarf to Do??????

Think the river is fished out, and far as I know, never caught anything that made shel.  Piles of fish bone, no shells.

You could try trapping vermin and hope to get a few snails this way.
Or go and kill giant snails, they have shells as well.

I'm half tempted to use DF-Hack to just "make" some shell.

Well, you do not have any shells, so what? Wall him in his workshop and forget about him.

I don't believe shells will be requested if they aren't available on your map. So, you must have some kind of shelled creature somewhere.

Hmm interesting, have to look more.

Also, normally I would not care, but the guy is a Grand Master Surgeon AND Suturer. not exactly skills easy to come by.

Eh, skill doesn't matter so much as being willing to help others does. I guess in dwarven medicine it's the thought that counts...

But yeah, it used to be that people would get shell requests without any way of obtaining them, since traders don't bring them and they may not have shelled fish. So now it'll only happen if shelled fish are available, I believe.

No, cave lobsters do, but according to the wiki, these shells cannot be used for crafting (it moght still get used for an artifact though).
Besides that, only mussels, turtles and oysters give shells. And snail men ...

No they dont. Your best bet would be to fish in the caverns or hope for a FB with a shell.

Always start your embark with pond turtles as food... then you will have shells you can forbid for moods.
