- Go for one maximized hero and bunch others to gather weekly resources and troop hauling
- Always go for economy first. In the latter stages you actually have not enuf monies to buy all units.
- You need some balance though, sometimes crucial recources is blocked and you need to postpone development to buy army for it for some killing.
- Titans(mirror image) and Black Dragons(armageddon) and Necros (vampires + gazillion skelletons + animate death) is best comboes by far. Other races require alot of luck and lose way to many troops to be on par.

It's all I remember, I played this game on lan several hundred times for sure Hope I recalled correctly, sometimes I tend to mess stuff from different versions.

It's funny. All the games I've lost against the AI since this thread came up have been due to me getting bored of managing my chain of 8 heroes that mule troops across the map, getting lazy, then losing half of them or getting backstabbed or somesuch. It's one of the reasons I'll always take Logistics if given the choice: Home ground is easy to defend, but catching anyone out in the open comes down to army composition (unless you have something like Logistics). Kinda makes me wonder if there's a place for terran conversion in the series (I haven't played any of the other HoMM games, so there might be some later).

And with tournament, you mean like everybody playing a match versus everybody? Or at least, until you lose a match.

The idea when I made this thread is I would get a list of people who want to go in the tourney, their estimated play times and what skill level they believe they are at. They would be placed appropriately so everyone gets a fair shot at number 1. They would play against their opponent, and if they won, they would move up and verse another winner (just a basic tourney set up).

As the matches go on, the rules might get stricter or they might change to see who can adapt to a variety of situations and not rely on a sole strategy. It could be something as simple as a match change, it could be restricting races, it could be anything. If everyone really wants to, we could make no rules or the two players playing against each other could make the rules until they agree on something.

It isn't a serious tourney, its a fun tourney. Whatever everyone finds fun is what we will do.

It's hilarious how this site doesn't actually say which zone you are in. (it's GMT+2, BTW)

Maybe we should run a test game with everyone willing to begin with? Last time me and a couple of buddies tried to do it, though, we ran into major problems coming from compatibilities. It looks like only exactly matching versions are compatible, and additionally different collections (Gold, Platinum and so forth) and incompatible with each other and the non-collection version. Can anyone confirm it?

Well, it's to be expected from the prototype version. But yeah...4 heroes, 4 army types. I don't even remember if heroes could cast or not.

If we do get games going, I hope we get some team ones in. Really opens up a lot of options.

The various expansions and collections are supposed to be compatible, but I wouldn't be surprised if the CD-less GoG version didn't work with the others. There's another known problem with playing online (the MS DirectPlay issue again), the easiest way of getting around which is via GameRanger.
