The Endless Battle
« on: June 08, 2012, 10:19:40 pm »

Got bored, breached Hell. 214 dwarfs died, fast.

But one...one dwarf endured. The mayor. Did she escape? I thought. Nay, good sirs, she was on the topmost level, being strangled by a demon.

I let the game continue.

...and continue.

..................and continue.

Two seasons have passed. Caravans have come and gone. Llamas have given birth.

Still my mayor is being strangled.

Still she endures.

Maybe endures is too strong a word. She rejoices. Because she still lives! And while she lives, Olincerol will never, ever fail.

The battle logs consist entirely of "The three-eyed fiend strangles the mayor's throat!" I guess she must be a vampire.

She has dined (eaten food) and given birth recently - she isn't a vampire.

What was she, then? She lived for nearly a year and a half, being strangled by the demon - then she was scared to death by a ghost. Is it normal for dwarves to survive that long without food or water?

It says she's really fat. Could explain the not-choking and the not-starving, not sure about thirst though.

It's probably the monkey bug (I can't find the original thread with searches right now). It was first encountered during dwarf-rhesus macaque combat. Essentially, a creature being strangled won't die under certain conditions.

See this thread instead: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=58232.0

Don't you know? A dwarf's liver acts in a manner similar to a camel's hump, storing alcohol for later consumption.

This is why they go months without drinking, and still live.
