So. I have no idea what the normally accepted term for these things are, so I'll call them Clown Tents. Only found once per every 16x16 embark square, have a Candy Cane stuck right in the middle, that leads straight to the circus. Is there any way to make these appear more frequently, or is it pretty much all just dumb luck with embark->savescum->repeat? I'd kill to have one even just once on an embark site.

Hint: This is what I'm talking about. Spoilers of course.

No way other than trial and error to find one I think, I did it recently by methodically embarking on every possible portion of an embark square, embark, reveal hell with dfhack, abandon fort, repeat.

Every 16x16 square in the overworld map has one fortress in it, and the location is random. There /might/ be a DFhack utility that reveals the location, but I'm not sure.

Also, and this is unrelated, but I seriously hate calling demons clowns, and anything related.

Well, it's tradition here for the sake of spoilers and general fun.  And besides; Clowns are creepy.

one time i revealed one on my old computer with df hack... that computer laged so much it wasent worth keeping the fort

That's your own fault and not reading the instructions that are right there that clearly state not to unpause while revealed.

They usually intrude into your caverns.

They count as architecture wealth, so you can check easily on embark if your map has one. Since they're made of smoothed black licorice, it'll put you at a few thousand even before building anything.

I'll have you know the clown term is the best term. Once a clown college arrives and starts throwing !!pies!! everywhere, you know the fun has started.

actually I guess the dedicated !!pie!! throwing clowns were just in 40d. Now clown wackyness is all ramped up and they use seltzer bottles and itching powder.

Getting back on the OP's topic,  I believe there's a tool in DFHack (or one of the more common modding tools) that highlights the locations of demon fortresses on the embark map

Prospect tells you if you have a clown tent.

Before starting, make a save of your region folder.

Embark on a whole map square (maximum embark size). Before your FPS gets raped, reveal the thing. See where the demonic fortress is.

Then quit, start new fort on the other region folder, find back that square you embarked on, and embark on the demonic fortress. Simple enough.
