I want to make bolts from dead goblins like I could in the previous version.
Huh, I am newer on the forum than I had thought.

I can't because my posts are from before the forum move/re-org, so they got all mixed up.  :(

Hi, I'm NRDL.  I'm a newb to Dwarf fortress.  I'm such a newb that I don't know how to play fortress mode without giving up in frustration.  I do like playing adventure mode though.  One thing I'd want to do is make goblins playable as an adventure race, but I just can't seem to do it.  No matter how much I mess around with the raws, I can't get it right.  I've been searching everywhere for an answer.  Can someone please help me?

Yep, the modding section.  I made my first post in my first thread too, and I got my sig on that same conversation.  Big day for me.

I'm on win7x86, with an nVidia 7900, and various actions seem to randomly sometimes minimize the window.

also, apparently you have to press broken to enter the help screen

Just some bug reports.

Edit: Hope this isn't considered spamming. I wasn't really sure text was necessary, but I spent about 15 minutes finding the resources for and then making this gif, and I didn't want it to go to waste...

First time I saw the trade screen, I saw a bunch of cool stuff I wanted (like food and wood), so I selected it.  All I had was a valuable anvil I didn't know how to use, so I offered them that.  With the offer command.  Ok, now how do I request a good in exchange... oh.  Crap.

Good old "Face Palm moments you had" thread, good for a laugh (and newbie icebreaker).

I had to fight some enemy. I was overconfident as I took down other enemies without breaking a sweat, so I fight her.
Then she gives me a kick to the head.
One hit kill.
I was such a young adventurer back then, was I not?

I only just started playing Dwarf Fortress the other day, and I'm already hopelessly addicted. :P
I started off just playing adventure mode, as the main game seemed too daunting to me...
But just yesterday I started my first proper fortress. Of course, at first I had no idea what I was doing, and it was a long process getting my dwarves to do anything at all.
Well, by the time I'd dug out some caves and figured out (partly) how to build things, a lot of my dwarves, and new migrants, were pretty frustrated. Eventually a couple of them lost it, and killed some of my other dwarves...
My first reaction was to command my soldiers to kill them, but I couldn't. (I have no idea how to mark them an enemy or anything like that :( )
So then I discovered the JUSTICE screen. I looked through all my dwarves for a candidate for a sheriff, eventually I decided on a recruit in one of my squads, a new migrant. He had no friends, so I figured he would make a good dealer-of-justice, having no ties to anyone. I made him Sheriff, gave him the title of executioner and a massive axe, as well as a trendy black outfit!

...Bad move.
I think he was a bit unhinged to begin with, but giving him an important job made him go completely nuts...
He was pretty handy with that axe, and killed about... 30%? Of my dwarves.
Of course that didn't include the two criminals. *sigh*
After that, he was okay for a while, dishing out justice, and only occasionally going nuts and lopping off some heads. Eventually, though, I think I only had about seven dwarfs left, and he was posessed. I have no idea what by, but he just sat there in a 'strange mood', not moving.
He sat there for ages, until eventually he went 'completely insane', became a clothier, and got brutally beaten to death by another dwarf.

I guess I did something wrong in choosing that guy... But damn, that was fun. :D I'm really addicted after that!

Ah, I may have changed over the years, but I still do enjoy a good ol' tantruming sheriff crisis. :P
Also, 'proper' was really not the right word to describe any of my forts back then, heh.

Things are going relatively well at roughdyes. well, except for the dear in the reservoir. I don't know how to get them out but at least they arn't hurting anything.
Good news is, I got them out of the well. Bad news is it took me for ever to get them out of the fort it self and they caused  untold job cancellation spam as both they and the dwarfs ran madly through the halls..

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Two huge images for an adventure mode weather glitch and a really long fall.
Man, look at that dithering. I must have been saving screenshots in mspaint.
I'm surprised they're still hosted.

Seemed like every other post back then was a deluge of screenshots.

Wait, how is this a game? Am I winning?
