Haven't consumed something produced by commercial non-game media in years, and commercial game incredibly sparingly. Stuff like this is just more incintive to go "fuck 'em" and cease patronage completely, bleh.

Topic related, well, is first. Anyone heard of if riaa dude was talking out of ass or not, and if not exactly how it's manifesting? How much day one activity are we seeing?

Yeah, or the removal of Mossadegh in Iran and the establishment of the Shah's dictatorship.
That was actually so the US and UK could profit from Iranian oil production.

Just out of curiosity, is there any sort of list of service providers and how they're handling this, if they actually are?

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

they were already doing it. Mossadegh was a democratically elected popper socialist dude who began implementing  basic leftist reforms like mitigating slavery and forcing the feudal lords to provide basic infrastructure to the serfs, and because decades of talks failed to negotiate even a meagre deal with the established british corporations exploiting the countries resources, the guy took the drastic measure of nationalizing the oil industry.

Might as well post this:

Quote
This is it. This is the week when ACTA lives or dies, globally. We have seen it coming. Now is the time for the very final push in contacting the European Parliament. On Wednesday, in the session between 12 noon and 14:00, the European Parliament votes on ACTA. If the European Parliament kills it, it dies globally.

Nope.

Hardly matters they would have found a way to put ACTA in anyway.

Besides why would they stop ACTA the entire governmental process is funded by big-corp? Well the part that people in government care about anyway.

Because the big corps are not mob immune. You can have all the money you want, but if you can't get out of a building without getting angry people following you, you kinda have a problem.

Also because fuck them, they had their fun with their scarcity before the internet. Deal with the new or die off and get out of the way, you're holding us back big media corp.

Yes but the government can't go after the Big Media Corp and heck any corperations really because remember... If your in office you are ONLY in office because you made a deal with some corp... and if you didn't then everyone else did so you can't do anything anyway.

It is why people argue that the government is systematically corrupt.

Ban corp campaign contributions. Problem solved.

(Yes I know its more complicated then that. But the first few presidents didn't get elected because they had a goddamn fortune or looked pretty but only have enough sense to fill a watermelon, they were elected because they were actually helpful the majority of the time, or tried to seem like it. Those who want to run for office and those actually good at doing so are separate things for a reason these days.)

Yes, the first few, like you said, because it can only be a temporary situation.  A massive popular movement can throw the money out, but it will work its way back in as soon as we let our guard down.  Money is power and it will leverage its way into a relationship with other pillars of power in pursuit of its own interests.

There are three options here

1.  A majority of the population learns to be eternally diligent against corruption.  Not realistic at all.
2.  We settle for a creeping cycle of corruption that occasionally gets hit with a reset button when popular anger/awareness finally builds up.  Not desirable.
3.  We figure out an entirely different way of doing things.

AHAHAHAHAHA

If ACTA should pass, we can just form an organization that lets people take organized shifts in following the ACTA instigators around non-stop. No shouting, no violence, no interaction, just watching. Preferably in a standardized outfit. Bonus points for getting a restraining order.

It is the thing about the Corps Versus Everyone else

We have ALL the power... but the issue is simply time

A Corp can EASILY pay someone to spend all the time they want on a project they want.
While everyone else not only do they have to fight this on mass but they also have to be dedicated to do so as well.

It is why Corps tend to win. (replace Corp with any entity that has tons and tons of money)

Since their Casual effort is more effective then Everyone elses to the extent that only outright opposition wins out.
