I had a vampire queen but I cave-inded it. =(

(BtW, what usually happens if you manage to kill the current ruler of your civ in fortress mode? Does a new one get appointed automatically and is it possible for them to move into your fort also?)

I still keep reading the OP as Toady's brand new Queen is a vampire.

I did a double-take on the title for this exact reason.
Also, this.

Certainly you could argue that DF is a lot like The Sims, only... you know... with more vomit and decapitation.
If you launch a wooden mine cart towards the ocean at a sufficient speed, you can have your entire dwarf sail away in an ark.

You will never have a ruler again.

So, if you abandon and re-embark, is that civ going to be "extinct", or just keep going without a ruler?

You dont need a ruler to embark/exist. My human civ I am playing as has NO GOVERNMENT AT ALL. Not even holy trees or whatever.

I like how no-one mentions the Vampire Queen is actually the Vampire King in disguise.

I got fed up with my fortress, so I decided to kill everyone (abandon is for elves) with a cave-in.

OK, cave-ins were always pretty deadly, but with the new falling object damage they are downright brutal.  As far as I can make out from the logs, many people were killed by the flying bodies of other victims.  One baby's corpse ricocheted off three other people, two walls and the floor.

A vampire
*stuff i said*

Stow the attitude, kid.
I really wasint trying to be rude in any way, just pointing it out. But thats the internet for you, can never know someones tone, etc. Someone joking could sound angry to some one else. No hard feelings :3.

Anyway, i have actuly never gotten a vamp as my king/queen, its always been a necromancer for me when i got it in the new version. Im not sure what you should do with the vamp, but this is Dwarf Fortress, the possibilitys are endless. I would try to get some blood in the well to vampify the whole fort. Vamps dont eat, drink, sleep, or breath (ie. cant drown) so your queen being a vamp is always a plus, as they cant starve or drown. Until......

They don't drink alcohol either, and maintain the [ALCOHOL_DEPENDENT] tag. Consider the implications of this on productivity.
Sure, a vamp or two in a box is good as an eternal bookkeeper/fortress black box/lever puller, but  I would advise against vampifying the whole fort.

And yeah, Urist McBathory bleeding your legendary armorer dry sucks draltha balls.

Of course, you could also build her an elaborate crypt complex and throw in a few worthless peasants as sacrifice every now and then because hey, this is Dwarf Fortress, so why not?

Yeas, this is true, however it still doubles theit agility and strength. I tested it a bit and i found out that a vamp that hasint drank any blood/alchohol in a while is still faster then your avredge dwarf.

A vampire
No sh*t

Its really not that un-common, happen's all the time, vamp's live longer, so they get a better chance to become king/queen, and they can learn a ton of social skills, .

By the way, in the future, be wary of what you post.
Eggnog, I think you ought to take your own advice, because that made you sound like a huge dick.

Throw in the children. And clothes, and coffins, of course.

Has there been any information on how long since drinking vamp blood it takes to turn? Or how many times it takes drinking it to turn? Or about immunity to turning somehow?

I have a dorf that I've watched drink from the tainted pool twice and still hasn't turned.

You sure;
That 1, the Dwarf is drinking vampire blood with the water,
2. That the Dwarf is displaying sure symptoms of not being a vampire?

I haven't seen a single vampire in Dwarf mode since Toady toned down their frequency.  I kind of miss the homicidal, immortal buggers.

There's only one place to get water from there and it is a one tile 6 deep pool with blood in it. She was drinking at it and did not get interrupted. Two signs she's not a vamp: She went back for a second drink and she went to sleep.

EDIT: Third drink and no change. A different dwarf from the same pond drank and no change, nice and asleep. I'm wondering if "A spattering of [McDwarfy's] dwarf blood" is not enough.
