Science is a game about a (mad?) Scientist, who uses his incredible intelligence to achieve his goal.
What goal you ask? Dunno, this is up to you.
But first you need a name, a gender, a discipline and a background.

What discipline is your starter discipline? You will have a level 3 in this discipline. (You can always learn another disciplines.)
Physics :
Physics is the science of matter, energy and the general of the universe behaving. Physics can lead to great achievments like gravitation manipulation or singularity guns.
Physics tends to be low bugdet and is often a bonus talent for other experiments. However, you will not have amazing results unless you're on level 5.
Chemistry :
Chemistry is the science of chemical substances, their compositions, structure and reactions with other chemicals. Chemistry leads to many things. Mind-controlling drugs, Acid Launcher or great medical substances and artifictial diamonds for poor kids. You get the idea. But Chemistry is an expensive discipline.
Biology :
Biology is the science of life. Everything which involves organic material has to do with biology. With biology you can breed new life forms or make genetic augmentions. Biology is too a expensive discipline, but it's also funny.
IT :
IT, or information technology, is the science of computers and other giant calculators. With IT as discipline, you can hack into bank accounts, make games or program roboters... It's up to you. IT only needs a computer, maybe an internet connection and a cup of coffee.
BACKGROUND
Your background will determine some things...
UNIVERSITY : The university provides you some advanced euqipment and wants to you to make science for science. This means, no ethical questionable experiments, but you get some decent money.
CORPORATION : You work for a ruthless, unethical CEO, who wants some nice science, that he can sell off. You get your money, you have HI-END!!!! equipment. However, HE tells you what to do. You're very restricted. And sometimes he wants immoral things from you.
FREELANCER : You have some basic equipment, a nice apartment and you do as you please. Best start for mad sciencetists, because, you know, no restrictions.
