Uniform copy paste
« on: June 07, 2012, 07:41:48 am »

I have not found an answer to this one but I have seen some discussion so apologies if I'm duplicating.

I spend a lot of time building uniforms from the military screen:  Setting up a basic uniform for each weapon loadout I want;  Upgrading the uniforms gradually as better materials and more kit become available.

Is there an easy way to copy and paste a previous uniform as the basis for a new one?  Ideally without using DFHACK as I am trying to avoid hack temptation.

not really. The best I've seen was to set up a macro that picks the armor for you and then choosing a weapon manually. Bonus is that you can use the macro in any game as long as you copy paste it to the right folder (when updating)

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

This is the answer.  A point of caution: when setting up your uniform macro(s), start recording before you even enter the military screen, and avoid ever moving the cursor back into the uniform list (the column on the far left when creating a uniform).  Also avoid naming the uniform as part of the macro; do that manually.  I've had errors occur when I do those things.

Since someone pointed out to do this, it's been wonderful.  I have a macro for Melee Armored soldiers, Ranged Soldiers, Civilians etc.  They stay saved with all of my other macros each time I make a new fort.  Another point, you will need to make new macros if you ever edit the raws / install mods that alter the number / types of clothing/armor that exist for your civilisation.

Thanks for the advice both of you!  I have not used macros for anything other than setting up bedrooms en masse so far... armed with the suggestions above I will investigate them further! :-)

Spoiler: :D (click to show/hide)

Another very handy use for macros is to select items for trading a page at a time instead of one at a time; can make trading with caravans 10x faster.
