Most unexpectedly deadly animal encounter.
« on: June 05, 2012, 09:51:04 pm »

Probably. mine would be there near-fatal death of nearly all my dwarves to a...... Giraffe. Now I understand the horrid feebleness of standing up a what is basicly a giant horse.

One minute: Giant capybaras are just big rats, right?

Next minute: Why won't they stop killing my poor war grizzlies?

One of the worlds I genned had deadly werebeasts.

The most prevalent ones?

Were-tapirs, man.

I also had a character in adventure mode die to a rabbit.

That should be a new type of project, making a rug design in dwarf fortress (With accurate coloring)

This.

The Capybara has become enraged!
"Meh, big deal. So the big scary pig-mouse is a little peeved. Me so scared."

...

The Capybara bites the Lumberjack in the upper body, tearing the fat and tearing apart the liver!
"Holy fuck! D: Run, Urist, run like the wind!"

Certainly you could argue that DF is a lot like The Sims, only... you know... with more vomit and decapitation.
If you launch a wooden mine cart towards the ocean at a sufficient speed, you can have your entire dwarf sail away in an ark.

Normal Capybaras are giant rats.

Giant Capybaras are giant rats.

It isn't a new Dwarf Fortress version until we're made to fear some kind of regular creature.  Carp, Elephants, Unicorns, Badgers, and now Mosquitos.  I've got 5 dorfBucks on the next one being plagues of groundhogs.

Surely you mean giant giant rats.. right?

Unexpected deadly animal encounter for me would be horses or anything with hooves. Especially when you see all the Stray Cow teeth scattered around the pastures. And then The Stray Alpaca (Tame) has suffocated!

Surprisingly enough, Keas. My hunter did his best to protect my starting fort, and he was nearly killed by them... talk about angry birds.

Not really, you give us nothing to go on...

animals with hooves are much like a dwarf quad-wielding hammers in DF. make one of those animals large, and it becomes somewhat like a very *heavy* hammer, with a high-strength creature being the driving force behind it.

or, to simplify things... in DF, stuff with hooves are FUN! (but not usually !!FUN!! although that can be arranged also with a proper magma bath).

A capybara ripped one of my Woodcutter's arms clean off once.

Are capybaras the new elephant carp?
