I have to say that we should make a safe house that is covered in layers and layers of traps.
Or hell, maybe make it a spiral path, but then retreat will be impossible.
I don't know about a trapped safehouse but a communal building like a church that's accessible only through a hatch. Building Destroyers can't destroy a hatch directly above them.

I actually did most of the leg work for bread when I modded in above ground wheat.
Just remove the reaction for adamantine wafers from REACTION_SMELTER and replace it with this.

Momuz Shivered in the drafty jail. Even living dwarves didn’t have much experience with the chill of winter, living as they did deep within he earth where the fickleness of the changing seasons could not reach them. It also didn’t help that Momuz was confined inside a cramped lead prison cell, waiting for his period of imprisonment to pass so that he could once again walk among the living freely. For the umpteenth time since his imprisonment, he thanked his good fortune that he had the sense to befriend most of the rest of the fortress population before being caught, as it was likely that the only thing keeping him from ending up staked and six feet under was his considerable support structure, which include 23 of the fortress’s 37 dwarves. Not wanting to kill their friend, even if he was a blood sucking beast of the night, the fort simply sentenced him as they would any other murderer. And so Momuz was to wait, in the cold of a Murderfarmed winter, for time to pass and his crime to be forgiven. And it might have simply gone like that, with Momuz being freed and kept far away from the rest of the village, if not for the return of one vengeful spirit.
When Mebuy’s terrible soul returned to the land of the living, it did so not as wailing shade, a troubled haunt, or even a vengeful wraith. It returned as nothing more than an occasional prod at Momuz’s thoughts, a voice in the back of his head that would occasionally lead him to take seemingly incongruous actions. This did not make him any more insane than your average dwarf, and was typically attributed to the dangers of sobriety by those who saw him act. But it certainly led to a very interesting year for the small village of murderfarmed. In this year, the village was sure to live up to its name.
Journal of Momuz
2nd Opal 229
I finally convinced dear old Ravod to toss me a few unusable scraps of skin and a journal, so I can keep a journal to keep me entertained inside of this tiny cage. From what I have been able to hear from the militia walking through the jail to get to their training room, the village moves through very dark times. Although with the addition of the well the dwarves no longer dry out like plump helmets in the sun, they still die like animals throughout the year. The frustration of the cold and constant threat of attack from all angles have lead several dwarves to lash out, with one apparently destroying the whole of the trading depot, scaring the merchants off without even picking their goods. That little outburst will no doubt lead to a great deal of controversy with the mountain homes.
6th Opal 229
Apparently Paintbrush has declared himself far too busy to bother with the outpost Liaison, Shouting something about how the title of expedition leader was better suited to criminals and fish cleaners. The Liaison, storming out of the room saw me in my cell. She walked right up to the door of my cell and asked,
“You there, with the cut foot, what is your trade?”
   “Well I am trained as a fisher-dwarf Ma’am.”
“And why are you in this cage?”
   “Petty theft and vandalism.”
“Well, as the current overseer does not see fit to perform his duties, and named someone of your description as an appropriate successor, I believe that it is best if you take charge of this, ehh, settlement.”
“Can you do that Ma’am? It seems highly irregular.”
“Do what humble fish cleaner? It was the last expedition leader who did this, not I. I simply deliver to you this good news of your advancement through society. Now then, what is your name humble dwarf?”
   “Momuz Atticwave Ma’am.”
With that the outpost liaison headed out of the jail and onto the roof of the Inn.
“Hear Ye Dwarves of MurderFarmed! On this day the title of expedition leader of this village shifts to Momuz Atticwave, Fish cleaner and chosen successor of Paintbrush Turkey. I would remind you all of the consequences of purposeful harm coming to an expedition leader, war with the mountain homes! Good day to you, Villagers of Murderfarmed.”
And with that the crazy dwarf walked right through the destroyed trade depot, leaving me in charge of this awful mess. Rovol save me.

(Sorry if my writing's a bit clunky, it's been a very long time since i have tried to do something like this. I expect I will get an update through at least spring up tonight, maybe more. Oh and I went ahead and dwarfed you, L3TUC3, as our Gem cutter/ goblin grim reaper. And i am pretty sure you died somewhere along the road Neo. Not sure what happened there.)

I have to agree. After getting a lot of boring badly recorded statistics a RP of a vampire's rein is much appreciated.

Also, my computer appears to have sh*t the bed, so I won't be able to play my turn any time soon. It may not come to it, but if I haven't sent notice that it's better before my turn comes around, just suspend it indefinitely.

Haven't been posting much in this thread, but I'm still following it. Good to see that my turn is still the most disastrous, haha. Is there anyone from the first... three migrant waves alive? I know for sure that none of the original seven are still around.

Diary of Nerjin [From beyond the grave?]

Today we enacted a ritual to forget about… someone. I suppose it works as we can no longer remember the previous… something. The ritual occurred roughly twenty minutes ago and already thoughts of him [her?] are fading rapidly. How our current over-seer got a hold of such powerful magics is unknown to any but themselves. Either way all I remember is that… I think it started with a T… some sort of bird perhaps? Tucan that was it. Tucan started breaking all the rules of our community. There is a reason we started this wonderful settlement. Tulip however didn’t want to play nice. We are a farming village but Turtle wanted to make us into a military dictatorship.
For such a long time we just couldn’t fight against him. Her presence was so terrifying that even the animals shied away from it. We worked by day but at night we cowered in our homes praying that we wouldn’t be the next to suffer Tophat’s wrath. However Momuz, a recent migrant with a criminal past, was overtaken by the righteous fury of Armok himself!
It was he who struck down the devilish Steve! Obviously due to Steve’s love of human’s. Sarah was a spy the entire time I think. Looking back at my journal I know that the ritual has worked. None of this makes any sense though wouldn’t we be aware of such a horrid dictator?

Dear Diary, please disregard the above. I sometimes get carried away with creative writing. A bad overseer here? None would question our beloved departed BrosephStalin’s rules right? For it was he who forged this wonderful community for our continued existence.

7th Opal
Well, I figured that even if I was appointed leader just because the last guy ticked off the liaison, I can still make this a better place. Maybe start to pay off my massive karmic death for all those murders.
I’ve decided that that the first orders of business will be protection and respect for the dead. I have reasoned that although our store house has more than sufficient supplies to keep us fed, the door is utterly inadequate for troll attack. To remedy this I will have the door removed, extend the mausoleum, and connect the warehouse and mausoleum via a ceiling hatch. As everyone know that trolls are terrible when it comes to lifting, much like how a crocodile finds it very difficult to open its mouth against any resistance, a simple bar lock will keep us safe from the beasts.
In addition to protection from outside threats, I have devised a way to keep the villagers safe from my… needs. A small apartment will be constructed off of the mausoleum, large enough for me to exist in with room for crafts dwarf shop and perhaps a chest or armor stand. There will be a door to this place locked from the outside, and a small basement to house any ingredients I may have use for in my plans.
I have a strange feeling that I may actually be able to do some good here yet.
17th opal
I am sorry that I have been unable to write diary, but it appears that it is no small feat to run a settlement from inside of a prison cell. Although Avuz has ceased to refer to himself by the ridiculous moniker of PaintbrushFowl or some such, he still insists that I must serve out my sentence before being allowed to move to the new apartment. I attempt to explain to him that the movement to my new apartment would simply be a more spacious cell, but he insisted that as sheriff he had to uphold the law. He insisted very loudly.
In good news the new secure warehouse and apartment are completed. While I am sure that it will be a bit of a pain to walk all the way through the mausoleum just to get to our foodstuffs and other wares, I am sure that when the next goblin ambush hits they will thank me for it. Speaking of ambushes I have ordered a large number of coffins constructed, as several of our own haunt the forest with their pitiful wails.
19th Opal
Wonderful news diary! Unbroken has given birth to a wonderful baby boy! Surely this sign of life during my reign, and so soon after the construction of my first project is a positive sign. But what next. Hmm, perhaps a hospital above the mausoleum? Morbid, but practical, and certainly a fine addition.
27th of opal
L3TU3C has given birth to a perfect baby boy! She had stopped by my cell to tell me the good news, and we got to talking, on account of her strange name. Anyway, she mentioned how it was too bad she didn’t get to defend her fellow dwarves anymore. Apparently the last overseer hadn’t allowed married women into the militia. Something about “Using children as flails”. Well, none of that here. I told L3TU3C to join the militia if she wanted, on account of us being in desperate need of able bodied soldiers.
28th of opal
Apparently there were NINE women skilled in the martial arts that had been forbidden to practice their craft. NINE. Nine dwarves can break a siege for Rovol’s sake! All of them have been reinstated.
5th Obsidian
I moved into my new apartment today. Hearing that heavy cedar board block the door from the other side was sobering, but reassuring. Aside from not being a danger to my fellow dwarves, I am also no longer at threat from goblin ambush.
I walked down to the basement and found, well, The basement was full of skulls. I suppose one of my villagers has a sense of poetic justice about them. I suppose I will turn them into totems.
10th obsidian
I heard tell from one of the villagers that the merchants had a great many animals in cages, and some appeared hungry. I ordered them released. We have three bulls, several more cats, and an absolute wealth of alpaca, but I cannot have them butchered or pastured at the moment. All hands are needed for the construction of the hospital.
14th obsidian
A bone doctor has given birth to a girl, apparently. Truly mine is a blessed reign, for it has brought life to village so near death.
15th obsidian
Leopard cubs born today! Didn’t even know we had a leopard, and now we have five!
18th Obsidian
Another baby girl born, this time to one of the presser? Militia women.
19th obsidian
Goblin Snatcher must have heard of our fertile dwarven couplings here came to try to snag some kiddies. Got scared off and killed a dog on its way out.
20th obsidian
Good lord another child born! This time to a glassmaker. Maybe humans live above ground because the sun makes them more fertile? Ahh, I am speaking heresy diary.
22nd obsidian
AMBUSH! Luckily the caravan guards, who are still here for some reason, kill most of the lashers. I should probably figure out why they continue to stick around. The new defense bunker seems to be working, so I will set up a system to link it to the inn and other major outbuildings. Think of it, every house connected to the hospital via a skyway system. Brilliant.
26th obsidian
I am a fool, a damned fool not fit to lead. 3 more ambushes arrived today, and not everyone could get to the bunker in time. I shudder to think what will happen out there. I hear tell that Minkot, our manager/ broker/ bookkeeper was beset upon by an entire squad of sword goblins. Rest in peace friend.
28th obsidian
Errant, apparently enraged by the loss of her child, stopped shooting the attacking goblin bowman, and charged it. She then did not attempt to bash its brains in with her crossbow, but rather bit the goblins arm, dislocating it and tearing all of the major arteries. This was apparently sufficient to
2nd granite
While tallying up the numbers of our dead, I heard cheering coming from outside. Minkot lives! Apparently he managed to scare off the sword goblins by getting a lucky hit in on the leader and breaking their moral. This does comfort me, especially given the news that both L3TU3C and her child had been killed by the goblins. They and three others found their ends at goblin hands.
19th granite
There has been little to report up till now diary, but I am afraid Rovod has gone insane. Reportedly he could not handle the stress and entered a Berserker fury. He killed an animal caretaker and her infant before being brought down. I weep for the loss of my old friend.
20th granite
Madness infects the village diary. I heard insane ramblings on the nature of ragamuffins and their relation to rambunctiousness from the dwarf known as Iago. Soon he too will rest within wood in the mausoleum.
27th granite
Work on the hospital proceeds slowly although I need to figure out a way to connect the well to the hospital.  Also a potter gave birth to a girl, showing a small ray of light in the crushing darkness we find ourselves in.
4th slate
Tekkud refuses both food and drink. I fear the mausoleum will have to be expanded again.
5th slate
Errant now refuses food and drink as well, the loss of her baby too much to bear. I fear a plague of melancholy is upon us.
Egad! An Armorer was also stricken with the spreading melancholy and now refuses both food and drink! To make things worse she had a child and just left it on the ground! Without it’s connection to its mother’s booze antibodies it will surely die!
21st slate
Thank the god’s migrants. Eleven new pairs of hands to withstand this hellhole with us. Perhaps with their help the hospital roof will finally be finished. I pray the epidemic of melancholy is passed
(Phew, that was one rough season and a half. By my count six infants were born and five people died, leaving us with positive population growth! We live! I will try to include more stuff from named dwarves next time and comment on re-dwarfing/dwarfing people. Also neo, apparently three of the starting seven survived, all miserable and or insane. Except one unnamed dwarf who is fine.)

(EDIT- Just noticed how long this post was, please tell me if i Should Stagger them out a bit.)

You do know that since it freezes in winter and we have no accessible magma the hospital has to be underground right?
Patients can't be given water if it freezes before it gets to them.
PBT's up to bat then.

I think where we're at with the water business is that a subterranean well and a subterranean hospital can be dug but they should be the basements of another building for aesthetic purposes.
