please keep the standard smelting reactions in there, that way we can buy ores and smelt them into bars....

It's more economical to just buy the bars. There's no way to add in a new reaction without replacing an existing one.

you can simply expand the reaction...... ie if you put in meat bacon comes out but if you shove in ore this comes out.... in the same way smelting works....

Got the bacon file, starting to play now. Here's a preliminary entry:

Mid-Obsidian, 337 (written in dwarven blood)
Damn it all! There's nothing to drink. Nothing. I tried to drink the ink as a last-ditch effort to survive; I write this in my own blood. I'll soon be found as a desiccated husk, I fear. There's one saving grace: my phylactery was recently completed, meaning that I'll be back soon.
This wood furnace isn't helping my thirst...

1st of Granite, 337 (written in the aether)
There! I have finally managed to retether my soul to this world. Those idiots at Murderfarmed desperately need my help if they want to survive another year. Their leader stepped down, with no one else apparently willing to lead. Now I just need to find a suitable person to possess, and my rule will begin.
***
Hrm... there seems to be only one person I am able to claim. It's Sayak's wife. I've never been a woman before, but there's a first time for everything I suppose.

Also, stupid question but how do I take screenshots? I'm on Windows XP if it matters.

There should be a button that says Print Screen or PrtScr or something like that. You might have to hold downFunction to use it. Then you'll have a screenshot in your clipboard that you can paste into a paint file.

(The following was discovered written with charcoal on a piece of scrap paper. The margins are speckled with the name Nerjin written at odd angles)
Quote
Granite the first

Disease. Nerjin is a cancer that has corrupted all he's touched, incompetence saw him permit our desperately scarce reserves of alcohol to deplete before the frost took the river but wickedness saw me wounded. Wickedness killed Winte r. The blood of they who died of thirst while the storehouse was filled with raw materials is on his hands. My friends and comrades dead, my town is silent with ruin. I cannot leave my bed to take account of the living or dead but Winter is lies a few feet away murdered by Nerjin in a fit of rage. Nerjin the name bestowed on a creature that does malice through misguided efforts. Nerjin a curse uttered by dead gods levied against they who make the world worse simply by existing. Nerjin the sound a dream makes when it falls from a pedestal and shatters on the floor. I lie wounded without water but there is no fear of death in me, I cannot proclaim to be immortal but I swear on my eyes that I will watch Nerjin die. I'll be there when Tahudjt hacks his bastard head from his body, I'll throw the first shovelful of dirt on his still screaming body when he's buried quite alive beneath the floor of my home, I will watch the light leave his eyes when the order is given for the horse to run and his body dangles suspended at the neck from a tall tree. I will cut out my heart if it betrays any sympathies to him for what he's done, my friends lie dead, my dream destroyed, my savings wasted but I am not broken.

WEAK

You are weak you cannot destroy Murderfarmed because it is stronger than you we will survive we are stronger than you. I am stronger than you. I will live.  You will die.

(the following is shakily written in blood)

Nerjin I will watch you die!

I am gleefully awaiting the migrant wave and my ascension to super bee keeper dwarf. :)

Maybe the smelter modding can give us something useful to use wax for.

Modding in candles should be fairly easy but that's really only cosmetically different than wax crafts.

First of Granite, 338
With my new pair of eyes, I'm presented with a terrible sight.

Nerjin is storming through the depot. He claims to be going to a meeting, but the murderous gleam in his eyes makes his true purpose obvious.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Stalin is horribly wounded, lying in the attic of a large home. Next to him is Winter's rotting corpse - surely a pleasant sight.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

As I walk by a compost heap, I notice my old body rotting and being eaten by worms. Note to self: make someone haul the corpses to the coffins ASAP.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Sayaks walks over to me. He says, "Honey, isn't this just plain swell? I'm so glad we came here!" I feign enthusiasm back to him. I don't know how I feel about someone who can be so jolly in the face of such a bleak situation.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I have my work cut out for me. Currently, my host is in charge of booze production. To keep my return from being noticed, I'll continue my current job for now.

Third of Granite, 338
There seems to be some kind of animal civil war going on. The chickens and ducks are continually murdering each other, and worse, the dogs are all attempting to tear each other to bits!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Fourth of Granite, 338
Suddenly, we heard a roaring from the attic of some sort of mansion. Broseph seems to have gone berserk in bed, ranting and raving about wanting to rip out Nerjin's organs one by one. Thankfully, Nerjin didn't hear him and no one has told him yet.

Sixth of Granite, 338
It's happening. A dog found a greenskin sneaking around the place.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Tragedy... the dogs chased him away, but not before he was able to stuff Led into his bag. The parents don't seem to sad, though...

Fifteenth of Granite, 338
Holy shit, grizzly bear right outside my door! Save me, Tahu!

FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUU

Seventeenth of Granite, 338
Goddamn it. Once again, I've been forced into spirit form. My compatriots have named the bear who killed me "Ushuldalzat," 'Realmmatched' in human terms. That bastard is even drinking our precious supply of booze!
Tahu is stuck running around trying to decide which sock to wear. The bear isn't leaving any time soon.
They just found my corpse. How does Sayaks feel about all this?
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
...yeah.

Twenty-Second of Granite, 338
That bastard has been tolerated long enough. Finally, Tahu has arrived to slay the beast. Hopefully, it will be a quick fight.

Fourth of Slate, 338
The chase continues for the bear. Its liver and upper body are cut open, but it shows no signs of slowing down. Tahu can't catch it with his heavy armor.
Broseph's intermittent rants suddenly ended with a raspy cry for help today. I wonder what happened?
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Sixth of Slate, 338
Huzzah! Just what we needed - migrants to help do things. There were 14 brave new arrivals in all.

Fourteenth of Slate, 338
The bear yet lives. Tahu lies in bed, exhausted but unhurt. Perhaps our hunter will have better luck.

We have a hunter as of the migrant wave, but I don't know if there are any marksdwarves.

As for Nerjin, he's kind of acting weird. He alternates between tantruming in place, attending a meeting (in other words, wandering around in a stupor doing nothing), and doing both at once.

You misunderstand. I don't care if the dwarf is current military, I just want to know if they've got any experience with a crossbow.

I should've worded that better, sorry.

Oh, I see. That makes sense. I'll dorf you (and any others I can) when I get back, I'm heading out for a dentist appointment soon. That bear must die.

(Mini-Update)
Dorfed:
-Iago: Great Carpenter, Male
-Infinity WEAPON: Novice Marksdwarf
-Neotemplar: Novice bee keeper
-Felcis: Great animal trainer
-Broken: Great Suturer and Wound Dresser
-Myself (again): Great Glassmaker

Twentieth of Slate, 338
The bear seems to have run off. The only animals remaining are Giant Wrens, who are being decimated by our two hunters Infinity WEAPON and Ilral.

I have chosen a new host for myself. My new hands are quite skilled at making glass, it seems. Perfect for my eventual seat of power.

I've ordered new homes to be constructed for our new arrivals. As catastrophic as the rule of my predecessor was, he seems to be alright at designing homes.

Twenty-Third of Slate, 338
We seem to have run out of charcoal. Perhaps the old specialist died? One of the two Tekkuds is now in charge of wood burning.

Nerjin continues his madness. He keeps chanting something about going to a meeting, refusing any food or drink. Every now and then, he snaps and goes roaring into some kind of fetal position, calming down after a day or so.

Twenty-Sixth of Slate, 338
Something has come over one of our millers. My research suggests that a Fey spirit has inspired him with an idea for some kind of artifact. Hopefully, he makes something useful.

Fifteenth of Felsite, 338
Elves. Better than nothing. We seem to not have a depot anymore, or at least it no longer counts as a depot after Nerjin damaged it...

Just realized: The Fey miller still hasn't claimed a workshop. I don't know what he could need, though. Perhaps he needs a mechanics shop - if we had one, it was destroyed by Nerjin. Ordering one built now, hopefully he will be able to claim it before he goes insane.

Seventeenth of Felsite, 338
The miller claimed the workshop just in time. He is now working furiously, having claimed a piece of sandstone, chalk, and conglomerate.

Two full homes have been completed so far, with a third almost complete. Plans for a fourth have been laid down.
