I enjoyed the first two far more. Far Cry 3's gameplay was very boring for me, along with the story.

I found 2 good, but the story was a little schizophrenic at times and the gameplay needed a little more love. It was in the doorway of great but didn't go right through, sort of like STALKER or Pathologic.

That's a pretty good description of it. I think the plot in 2 did a good job at staying out of the way and letting you make your own story. it captured the feeling of merc for me, and I enjoyed how detached the PC is from the conflict itself.

I know STALKER, but what's Pathalogic?

I don't know if this has been posted before but I found this on Reddit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnwVvAviNVk&feature=youtu.be&a

I played a few hours of it and I agree that it's a pile of crap that hides behind a veneer of glitter.
This guy should get on their Q&A team... he seem to find it all :)

I haven't actually had the chance to watch that video yet, but since the parent mentioned QA...

While he kinda makes fun of a lot of stuff which isn't that consequential/that big of a deal (especially for open world games - skyrim would have just as many graphical faults/glitches) it is pretty dead on about how stupid some of the stuff is. It just kinda made no sense why you'd do a lot of the stuff, and wandering around 'hacking' random peoples bank accounts to get money just seemed a bit stupid.
At least in assassins creed it was a kinda instant pickpocketing thing which was just kinda fun when you ran by people and saw them react or possibly catch you, whereas with this you just push a button with no reaction or anything. It's a minor thing, but it's representative of the game as a whole.

No, AC had the same level of stupid going on with money. "Why yes, in Renaissance Italy people just leave chests of gold everywhere! On their balconies, in the ruins of the forum, buried hundreds of feet below in the catacombs! Why, with all this money laying around, you'd think Renaissance Italians didn't really care that much about it!"

AC:Revelations goes even further, and puts stuff in the middle of markets with hordes of people walking by.

So yeah. Ubi has never really cared about the logical consistency of many gameplay elements. They care more about creating the illusion of activities constantly surrounding you, and they quickly lose all meaning due to their frequency. Money and chests, in AC, were effectively the energy pellets to the player's pacman.

Agreed, but at least there was some engagement with the pickpocketing/other activities, with watchdogs it's basically 'press q' and you instantly receive everything. I know it's only a small distinction, but it just feels even less engaged.

I don't know, the game's just a mess in general, and I didn't even have high hopes to start with.

Honestly, I didn't want to pickpocket anyone in AC2. Why would I? Why did they tie pickpocketing to walking quickly? That annoyed me.

Couldn't prevent my friends from buying this, so now I'll have to listen to their hardcore hacking action until school ends. They do agree that the driving is bad, even though they all have the PS3 version.

It's sort of sad that a game selling record amounts at release is slowly turning into a red flag.

In a few days I'll request some Steam Gauge statistics for it.

I think the flag was well into yellow/orange prior to release. I simply can't take most AAA games at face value based on press anymore. No one is willing to explicitly describe how things work, but opt instead of grandiose implications of depth where there is none. Thankfully there were enough videos and trailers for me to figure out the crux of the game without having to buy it.

Agreed, it was kinda pointless but at least you got a reaction out of it/other things, a lot on Watch Dogs is just 'press q -> you get/do something -> no one notices/cares/it doesn't mean anything'. I know the whole point is stealth and stuff, but just wandering around tapping on your phone (in game) seems like the opposite of dramatic.

There are some moments of fun like snatching people's phones out of their hands when they try to ring the police or having a car chase and hiding down an alley with the lights off and them all speeding by - it's just that the rest of it is such arcade-y, collectible nonsense and stealth is just pointless unless you just want to challenge yourself.

I just found a fairly large underground garage which is only accessible through the garage door.

Which only I can open or close.

I can basically escape any amount of police I want. Just go in there, close the door, kill whatever cops managed to get in anyway, and wait a little and walk out past the dozens of cop cars.
