I thought a few of the AC games were quite fun, especially AC 4: Black Flag.

Is Watch Dogs at least as good as AC 4?

Black Flag being the newest one, I suppose if Watch Dogs carries any of AC's sensibilities, it'd come from that one. Then again, WD was in development for quite a while, at least before AC3 (or whatever that trainwreck was numbered) released.

The application was unable to start correctly (0x000007b)  Click OK to close the application.

Windows 8.1 64bit, 4770k, 16GB RAM, 780TI.  Steam version.

I've tried reinstalling drivers, .net framework and DX11.  Verified dat cache like a pro.  Ran as admin.  Replaced DLLs.  Cleaned the gorram registry.  Restored an earlier point and tried everything again.  Sweared for a bit.

I'm all out of ideas, any suggestions?

HATING Uplay -they are having major server issues, which means you cannot log on and thus cannot download the bloody game!

It worked fine earlier, and it downloaded, but I encountered an issue where I couldn't move the character after the first room with Maurice. I could press Esc to get to the menu, but no other key works - uninstalled, and tried to install again and now can't as the bloody servers are fucked up.

*sigh*

I had expected a little bit more out of the hacker mechanics and certainly not the GTA style shooting/car chase experience. Deus Ex:HR managed to do the stealth/non-shooting action  well(other than THOSE BITS) and I don't see why they would think that they NEEDED to put that kinda play in.

However, a friend of mines been playing it for a bit and says the multiplayer is awesome, and that the DS style drop in/out means that you're never too bored. Controls could well get sorted out better after a patch or two, especially things like turning off the 'hold to shoot' mechanic for pc.

Verify file cache in Steam, attempt to re-download and re-install, run as Administrator....

2. Watch Dogs crashes with the error “The application was unable to start correctly (0x000007b)”

This Watch Dogs error message may occur on 64 bit operating systems when the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package is not properly configured.

You can find below the procedure for replacing the corrupted /misconfigured Windows files which should solve the issue you are dealing with:

    Click here to download the archive and decompress it to reveal the correct Windows files. The archived contains 5 files: mfc100.dll, mfc100u.dll, msvcr100.dll, msvcp100.dll and msvcr100_clr0400.dll
    Please save these files to any location on your PC;
    Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode
    Access C:WindowsSystem32;
    Locate the 5 files you have downloaded and extracted;
    Next, copy all those files to C:WindowsSystem32 replacing the current ones;
    Reboot your computer

Given the # of Steam games I own that have wonky MSVC++ redistributable install methods, it seems like a likely culprit.

I've heard Black Flag described as 'Pirate game with the AC plot in the way of doing more pirating' before. Is that close?

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Here's a view from the other side of the fence: that of someone who thinks the game is THRILLING and ORIGINAL and EXCITING and FULL OF POSSIBILITY.

Never read this site before, but RPS readers were lampooning it and so I had to look in on it.

My only problem is that my computer heats up to 94-95 degrees (c) when I am playing games. I know it's killing my laptop to be at those temps, but meh. It used to only start throttling my GPU and CPU at 97-98 degrees, but (i think) the new drivers changed that, cause I start throttling at 93 degrees which means my FPS tanks.

It's spot on.  The pirating is the best pirating in a game though.

Yeah AC4 was pretty awesome in the pirating section, I just REALLY HATE the whole present day story thing. I don't know a single person who enjoys it, and I feel that there's one moderately high up developer who keeps pushing it and no one can get rid of him or tell them that they hate it because his wife left him and he sometimes cries in his cubicle. Stop trying to make present day happen. It's not going to happen.

Well present day things are a part of the story and universe so i doubt they will go away any time soon. At best they will be limited in exposure but no way in hell they are going to remove them entirely.
