You must be growing up in a more innocent part of the world. In my old school, we had a small area that was basically a mini police station, and anything that could be remotely affiliated with gangs or violence was banned, especially bandannas, head wear, and trench coats. We also had a to wear red or white shirts as part of our uniform. The wannabe crips were not amused.

Basically that. Trenchcoats at school here tend to get you in trouble.

Friend of mine from college has a really nice black leather threnchcoat, which he wore all the time.  I don't see him outside as often any more, but I suspect he still wears it frequently.

I was talking about a high school. If a college doesn't have a dress code, I think the only thing they care about is not being naked.

...yeah, sometimes not even that.

I grew up in a smallish town in Ontario, so keep that in mind, but when I was in High school (my high-school career started with 9-11 keep in mind) our school had no problem with trench coats (Catholic High School  but no uniform). Hell, there was one guy who wore a black trench coat every day. The only problem they had was shorts/skirts too short, spaghetti strap tops (not a problem for me, ha) and hats/bandanas. Not for gang reasons, but because it's rude to wear hats indoors. We also had no actual security, and no cameras (except one focused on the smoking pit after a small fire).

On to Watchdogs!
I'm getting more and more interested in this. I'm really hoping the multiplayer is going to be as quirky/fun as it looks.
I was just saying he had one and it is awesome.

Edit: Fixed weird quotiness

That's why some countries got school uniforms. Less cliques, less wannabes, less 'visible' wealth inequality (and less freedom).

All the gameplay videos look cool but like I said a few pages earlier, never trust gameplay videos if it's recorded and uploaded by the developers themselves.

There won't be any GTA-esque lack of consequences for committing crimes.
Where did you see it? The protagonist escaped into a parking garage and the cops gave up the chase. Seems GTA-esque to me except for the car repair and respray :P

The irony is, there are still cliques, wannabes, and noticeable wealth disparity...to anyone who actually observes the students at school.

DF doesn't mold players into its image - DF merely selects those who were always ready for DF.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

Read the proceeding sentence to that quote, and watch this video (Old link got deleted - This one has commentary, though).

In the video, there's a part where the protagonist pops up on the TV behind a store owner. The store owner glances over his shoulder at the TV, then slyly reaches over and presses an alarm button while the player is distracted by all the cool guns and stuff. This in the middle of a video that's supposedly about free roaming - So while the player might be able to circumvent this somehow (Unconfirmed, but likely), it looks like you won't be able to go shoot a few hundred cops, wait a few minutes, and then walk around in the open once everyone's hate meter runs out.

It makes sense that you can evade the cops by evading them and ducking into a garage, but it doesn't make sense when your face appears on the hundreds of cameras around town and no one seems to notice that, hey, you're that vigilante guy that's been shooting people on TV.

At least, I'm really really hoping that's the case. Games need more consequences for your actions. I'll be disappointed if it's simply the result of a mission the character takes part in, rather than something you can trigger right off the bat by going on a rampage. It'd also be awesome if people around you happened to see you on their phone and called the cops. No game to date has given me the feeling that I'm a criminal who's on the run from the law; hopefully Watch Dogs will change that.

Discussion forums tend to do a pretty bad job at being news sites.

How about Assassin's Creed?

Assassin's Creed is a game about either Assassins and conspiracy plots, or people who can fight off a mob of enemies via counterattacks.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

The guards attack you once they recognize you. It's noteworthy, even if it doesn't work perfectly.

But generally the guards only "recognize" you if it's a plot point or if you're in a restricted area. You never have a civilian that says, "Hey, that assassin's the only guy in Constantinople that dresses that way, and he's standing right in front of me. Maybe I should call the guards."

Besides, Assassin's Creed is more of a power fantasy that only rarely forces you to run. If you do run, it's either because you're bored of killing 50 guards at a time, it's part of the plot, or you were in the middle of something else and don't want to bother. I'm hoping for something that feels a little more like you're an actual fugitive, and one who may not want to actually shoot any officers at that, rather than a god who decides he doesn't want to bother with the local law enforcement today. That involves actually having to deal with the consequences of your actions when you manage to finally elude or kill whoever's chasing you.

I agree, actually having to care about the consequences of your action for a change would really be cool. I'll remain sceptical, though, since I find it hard to believe that a major developer will make a ginormous-budget class game where your actions have proper consequences. Especially when previously successful sandboxes have had little to no consequences for similar things.

I'm always open to happy surprises, though!

With all due respect, you can get better information from other websites or just Google itself. This isn't the official website of Ubisoft and some members like me have the tendency to say random things for shits and giggles without adding anything important to the discussion. We are mostly just speculating about how the game will turn out. Also a little derailing happens on every forum. Anyway, no need to argue about this because it would derail the thread so I'm gonna shut up.

I don't wanna ruin the hype but I watched that video earlier and the only thing I could think of when I saw that TV thing was "SCRIPTED!". Maybe I'm too cynical but since the player character is a criminal, that TV thing probably happens in a mission or randomly or something. The possibility of circumventing something like this seems too hopeful for me. At most I think we will have something like Assassin's Creed, if you max out the heat meter cops start chasing you until you break the line of sight and wait until cops give up the chase. Or bribe journalists, I don't know. I don't even remember what we had to do for getting the heat down in Assassin's Creed except for bribing a herald. After you get rid of the guards somehow everyone acts like you are the new guy in the city again.

I'm definitely gonna try playing this game like a murderous bastard and see what happens though. I have the impression that the game will be easier than Assassin's Creed so I might just get away with it. I suck at roleplaying myself into the mindset of "I can murder everyone easily but I must run away dramatically and find a haystack to hide in because I'm an assassin, not an overpowered faux-stealthy protagonist"
