AH! i wasnt looking at the right video... also that is most likly scripted, because on the video i saw there is some difference from the other yet the same things happens, the SAME amount of cars the same brand and so on appears, same guy get killed in the car... man i had my hopes up now i dont know... sure it seem good and all that, but im a bit disapointed.

that was a luky dwarf. I had one dabbling surgeon fail so spectacularly that the patient skull flew a tile away from the table.

DF doesn't mold players into its image - DF merely selects those who were always ready for DF.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

See: The only thing to do after you win is to kill people randomly and die and respawn. Otherwise you can... Call the cops, I guess. Go buy one of the 4 suits..
This ought to help inspire you to do more zany things.

While the scene shown might be script "enhanced" I wouldn't let that dampen your hopes...its still in the making and they probably used everything they could to present what appears to be a finished product...but its not so they had to likely doctor it up in some ways...looks very hitman-esque. In the hitman series of games there are many scripted opportunities....but they can be used or passed up as you see fit. Thats what this looks like to me.

Honestly, I'm not all that bothered by the idea of scripting.  They've already said it's open world and if it's open world there'll probably be plenty of unscripted content for us to play around with, if they want tighter rails on the story it's no big deal.

I think we bay12ers have been a bit spoiled by Dwarf Fortress.  I've multiple times heard words like "linear" used as pejoratives, as if a game must be freeform or it's bad.

Yeah I'm in the same boat Cthulhu, I mean by the same reasoning you could conclude that Planescape:Torment is a terrible game even though you are ignoring all that makes it so great.

Yeah, you should have read the stuff at other forums. People are super-excited for this and noone ever talked about the scripted crash and the thing about everything in the game being vulnerable to hackers. They mostly talked about how shiny and fancy the graphics were. Then people started talking about if it's next-gen shit or not.

I like this forum. Gameplay > Graphics all the way.

There's a cutoff for me. The graphics can only get so bad before I wont touch it. Sure, gameplay means a lot, but... if a game looks ugly as sin, I'm going to be distracted from the gameplay.

Interestingly, ASCII is not the "ugliest" for me. Having no "real" graphics can actually look better then having terrible, but "real", graphics.

Or Half Life 2; widely considered one of the greatest shooters of all time. Incredibly linear, but linear used well.

Also, posting to watch, and say that this game looks seriously smexy.

When I think of why linearity isn't automatically bad, I think of Half Life 2.  It's basically a rail shooter/deus ex machina slideshow but few people would call it bad.

Another tie to Half Life 2: Anybody else still have the beta files saved on a hard drive? If not, trust me, those demonstrations were scripted as all hell.

I hope this is a similar case of "Shit, we need hype! Quick, script some 'emergent gameplay'!"

Meh, it's been a while since I played an overhyped game and complained about it. I'm sure no game can be overhyped like Skyrim though.

Did you forget about Spore?  The 2005 Demo is half of what killed Spore.  It wasn't a great game on its own, but if we hadn't seen that original demo we would've just been "Eh, lot of missed potential here."

Instead people went to fucking war over that game.
