Maybe it's a stealth sequel (no pun intended), and they won't reveal it until later in game!

(they're both Ubi right? I always get the console game brands mixed up. Or was it Eidos...enix? SquareUbiEidosEnix...)

It does have the same flashy interface style going on.

Yeah they're both Ubi. It really bugs me how all their action games somehow manage to take cues from Assassins' Creed, though I heard Splinter Cell: Blacklist was very unique and good.

Ubi also has a massive hard-on for crazy interface.

It actually would be pretty funny if it turned out to take place in the same universe as AC. I'd be surprised if there wasn't at least a non-canon cookie with that implication, in fact.

After I said that, the thought immediately occurred to me that this might be a test-bed for the future of the AC franchise, seeing how people like the shift from climbing buildings to driving cars and using phones.

I heard that Ubi puts the templar logo in hard-to-reach spots in many non-AC games, some implying that it's all the same universe.

Watch Dogs has been delayed until "Spring 2014", which is a vague date usually reserved for games that were just announced. I'm disappointed, but I get the feeling this is a good thing. There didn't seem to be much there beyond screwing around and the main story line. It also explains why it hasn't popped up on Steam for preorder yet, which had me worried Ubisoft was going to try to make Watch Dogs the champion of its Steam-like service. I won't be surprised if there's more delays, but I doubt Ubisoft will allow it to go too long without a release. At least they seem to be willing to give it time to be polished.

It's also a good thing since I won't have to decide between AC4 and WD now. (Both had the same PC release date.)

I'm half suspicious that it was a planned tactic to begin with, honestly.  I wasn't able to find a single 'confirmed' release date for it, while AC4 has had one for a while that just got pushed back a little bit for the PC due to admitted issues.  I'm lead to believe that Ubisoft never actually planned to release it alongside AC4 at all.

WD had a specific release date. Both AC4 and WD were scheduled to come out on November 19th for the PC.

I'm starting to wonder if it's becoming standard practice to delay games beyond their promised release date, though. It's probably something to get investors more interested, since they probably want something more specific than "Oh, some time eventually within 2 to 4 years..."

The engineers on the team probably know what's going on and have a much more honest idea of when the game will come out, but that's why engineers aren't typically the same guys that do marketing.

Pushing back is fine...I am tired of major games being released as finished...but in reality is more like an open beta/early access thing...I guess they see that working really well for the indie game industry so they wanna do it too...

So there is 14 minutes of gameplay video released(the first 5 was released before I think. The game continues to look way too good. I have been burned by so many Ubi games that I have almost forgotten that they used to make really great games. I mean, is there really a chance this could be a great game? I have decided to wait an extra week to get it on the next gen console instead of the earlier release for PC and current gen systems. It's for so many consoles that I think the best experience is likely to be there even though I have heard a bunch of stuff about how they have had a dedicated PC team the whole time, yadda yadda.

Anyway, here is the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRAzrwRZ-T4

And then he blatantly loots an innocent lady's bank account.  PRETTY GREY.

Also, I dunno.  My main beef with AC is that you basically don't even have to play it as a stealth game, because you're like an unstoppable, invincible juggernaut.  It wasn't too bad in the first one, but subsequent games give you ridiculous piles of health, healing, a regenerating grace period between losing all your health and dying, and make enemies super easy to kill and even block, even with the hidden blades.  If Watchdogs is 'AC but enemies are actually dangerous and you have to avoid them' I think I'd be A-okay with that.

I am not sure how old this post I am replying to is, also.

Well that is because the Assassins Creeds after the first were straight out action games. Basically where he upgraded from being a Ninja to being Ryu Hirubasa where "Ninja" is more in name only.
