My main issue was with people in high-heeled boots being presented as a threat to 47; nobody with a lick of sense would fight in those*, not if they wanted to not die horribly.

They were armed with automatic rifles. You don't need "proper" footwear if you were expecting to waltz into the burning remains of the hotel room and put a bullet in the target's head. Sadly, they weren't counting on 47 turning the tables on them, but they still managed to knock 47 around pretty well.

At least, that's my take on it.

But if you're going to kill a notorious assassin, why would you ever assume that your plan will go off without a hitch, especially when the "plan" consists of walking up to his motel room, standing in a line, and shooting an RPG at it? The Boy Scout motto applies to contract killings just as much as camping.

We're stuck with three options here:

1) The nuns were not informed as to who exactly their target was. For all we know, they were told that they were taking out a notorious arms dealer or something. Thus, they came prepared for a normal man, but not for 47.

2) The nuns were bargain-basement killers who had some wealthy backers. They wanted to be badass and took a job way over their heads.

3) The nuns were just that good...and so was 47.

I just realized that this is my third post and I didn't say anything about the game itself. I'm looking forward to this; I love Blood Money and the feel you get after scoring a perfect mission is awesome. If this game can deliver more of the same, it's on my must-get-eventually list.

Here is some footage.

Wow.
47 is an asshole.
Yeah, a protagonist assassin like himself is someone you'd generally expect to be portrayed as a Tom Cruise charming lady killer, but he's not. He's antisocial, asexual, and is very willing to use violence and murder to accomplish his goals, which makes him a very interesting character to play as.

4)  The trailer is intentionally campy grindhouse and doesn't really care about realism.

Here's a hint:  The answer is 4

I'm less concerned with the silliness of the nuns and more with comments by the game's producers that the game will not be sandbox at all. You will have binary 'stealth' or 'action' choices and that's about it. :<

To be fair a lot of the previous game's levels weren't very sandbox either, although they usually had open worlds with a lot of ways to approach your goals, but this does make me worry that these games are going to be very linear.

The footage we've seen of the Chinatown mission (despite being pre-beta) is very reminiscent of Blood Money's levels, so I think we're okay on that front. Not exactly a sandbox, but there are still plenty of ways to kill the target.

I'm just not a fan of stupid grind house excess.

Really though, I think there's a few comparisons between this and the Brothers in Arms 4: Furious something or other trailer, which most agreed was just stupid AND tacky.

Fans of a series don't appreciate when you slap on kitsch just to get people's attention. It feels disingenuous to what makes a series good when you reverse yourself, or in essence whore out the IP to a gimmick.

Whether it's a BFD or not, I appreciate that it annoys people. Publishers seem incapable of marketing games these days other than to the lowest common denominator, even if that says absolutely nothing about the game itself.

Pnx is right, it was never all that sandboxy.  At its best there were multiple paths, at its worst (The first game) it was basically a trial-and-error puzzle game with a single unintuitive solution.

That was stupid and tacky. I'm also not really seeing that many similarities between it and the Hitman trailer (aside from bloody violence, but then it's a Hitman game). If 47 had waltzed his way through the nuns like those four dudes, spouting one-liners, I'd agree with you.

To me it's around the same level of Kitsch. Sticking a tazer in a guy's nuts for comedic effect is on par with the sexy, absurd nun slaughter angle. It's appealing to the same lowest level of interest. The Hitman trailer definitely had a little more class though.

And like I said previously, this isn't the first time a Hitman game has involved sexy ladies in pseudo-religious garb. Not even the first time 47 has killed them. The only real difference is the slow-mo and the better graphics. Otherwise, it still fits entirely in the established Hitman universe.

And again with that "lowest" bit. I dislike that term; it screams "pretentious" to me.
