good to see he is alive,
I think he has made some pretty huge mistakes when it comes to communication, but mistakes are there to be learned from.
so yeah, keep on trucking and don't make the same mistakes again.
Same. But I think it was reasonable that we reacted the way we did.
EDIT: And hey, Backer Rewards may still be fulfilled, so I don't need to do my "thing".
Hey, B12ers. Sorry I didn't leave a post here on B12 simultaneously with the one that went out on Kickstarter; I was so tired that I couldn't manage it. But this place is really where I have my roots in the online gaming community, so while I work today, I'll be composing a post for all of you as well.
The reaction by the community to this situation has been extremely reasonable, from my point of view; putting myself in their position, I would have been just as critical. Still, the responsible thing to do is to acknowledge my mistake and try to do better in the future. I wasn't trying to intentionally hide and deceive people, but cutting off contact with them had the same effect, so for all intents and purposes it was the same.
That said, I'm going to try and spend as little time discussing the whole affair as possible, and instead just focus on making progress and increasing transparency and accessibility to me. Better to move forward than to get stuck on something that happened as a result of a disparity between my initial perceptions and the reality of the matter.
One thing I do want to note is that while Alex Poysky did a fine and admirable job as a PR manager for the campaign, more PR is really not needed right now, from my point of view. I would rather discipline myself into maintaining a more active presence so that the community gets the message "straight from the horse's mouth", as it were, than to involve another layer of possible confusion. In fact I think this was my initial mistake with my approach to the campaign; it would have been better for me and for the Cult community if it had stuck to its more humble (but tighter-knit) roots from the outset and crossed the finish line as a 'just made it!'. That would have eliminated a lot of the confusion about the amount of time and effort it necessarily takes to develop a game as complicated and eclectic-by-nature as Cult is. In fact I would caution other indie developers with more ambition than experience who want to use the crowd-funding platform to
avoid over-exposure. Luckily for me I still believe all of the rewards and promises made are still achievable, if I work hard and maintain a more healthy relationship between myself and the community.
