It's actually harder to set up paratroopers than you might think.  You have to research and manufacture both the paratroopers and the transport.  But it's totally worth it, as it allows you to attack from another direction (from the skies!).

EDIT: Actually, I think we have a transport plane already, we just need the paratroops.

I always consider paratroopers to be too much of a diversion. Sure they have great tactical uses, but are liable to get killed when you screw up, and have to maintain two tech branches (paratroopers and transport planes) that normally wouldn't be used otherwise.

Not to mention IC costs to actually build them.

What EuchreJack said. You're going to be of the defensive as soon as you take over the Saarland. Bomb their airfields while you can, try to achieve air superiority and dig in.

Alright, my main pc is doing weird shit (the screen blacks out sporadically for up to 10 seconds at a time), my air-conditioner is broken and my laptop overheats like a motherfucker. But, I've got a fan on it now, so it should be good until I can buy some kind of cooler. Anyway, game:

August 28th, 1939

Despite our best attempts to conduct bombing runs in German territory, the Luftwaffe both outclasses and outnumbers our meager airforce. Their bombers are currently attacking our troops on the border, but our fighters are indispensable in protecting Paris. On the bright side, 3 infantry/heavy tank divisions are moving into Metz to aid the attack.

September 6th, 1939

Those Fascist Italian bastardos have joined the Axis and are launching an attack from Libya!
Meanwhile, the battle for Saarbrucken is dragging on. We were about to claim victory until a few German reinforcement divisions showed up...

Hitler and Mussolini inspecting Italian troops.

I'm thinking that now that we are in the thick of it, updates will be somewhat shorter, but with more details. The only reason I stopped here is because I wasn't expecting the Italians to attack.

Well, it was to be expected. Don't divert too much ressources to Africa, we don't really care. What about the Alps?

They haven't done anything in the Alps yet, but I suspect the Germans may divert some troops down there. We've got some mountain troops still stationed along the border.

Don't move them and keep pressing on the Germans. We need Saarbrucke!

Liberté, égalité, fraternité!

I, being a voice of reason suggest we prepare a navy and invade the United States. It is the only logical choice!

September 6th, 1939 (Continued)

We've successfully defended Medinine from the Italian attack. Hopefully we can keep them at bay while the bulk of our forces fight in the homeland. Today is also the one month anniversary of the start of the battle for the Saarland.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

September 8th, 1939

A substantial amount of German reinforcements have arrived in the Saarland. We'll attempt to get more men to the front lines as well.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

September 11th, 1939

We've assumed military control over Australia and New Zealand, mostly so we can use their airforce. They'll also be transporting some troops over.

September 14th, 1939

We've issued war bonds to increase our treasury

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We've also begun general mobilization in order to bolster our manpower pool.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

September 16th, 1939

We've won the battle of Tataouine, beating the pesky Italians back into Libya.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The bloody battle of Tataouine.

September 17, 1939

The battle of Saarbrucken is turning into a bloodbath, and not in a good way. After having fought for a little over a month, our troops are highly disorganized and are being grind down by the fresh German troops that fill in for the ones we do manage to kill. We may still be able to go on the defensive if we pull back.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Apparently we outnumber the Germans, and have 1939 infantry (most of theirs are 1931), yet they are still beating us. Unless I'm being an idiot, our organization levels (the little green bar on the right) are too low, and the Germans keep sending in fresh troops while ours have been fighting for a month.

Is it me or they still have that armored car division in full power? Wouldn't it be since the battle begun? Doesn't AA gun work (apparently bonus to the German car division) nicely shredding infantry as well?

Start rotating troops. Get around twenty out and put the entire lot on offensive; give them a week put them in and take another out, etc.

That's the great part about being the attacker - you can rotate troops without having to move around, and besides, it seems that you're grinding the German army to dust at least. Keep attacking, and every division destroyed will be a godsend.

From the looks of it two things are going to happen.
1) We wipe out most of Hitlers army and take Berlin.
2) He wipes out most of our army and we pull back to Africa.
