I repeat: where are our colonial troops?

North Africa. Mostly. I tried moving some of them, but they take way too long without strategic redeployment (which I'm trying to figure out).

Looks like war with Germany is looming! How strong did we manage to make our forts along the Belgian border? 3-4?

All are level 4 and there's one level 6 next to Luxembourg. The Maginot is level 10.

June 9th, 1939

We've gotten word of a pact between the Germans and Soviets, no other details of this pact are evident yet... We've begun producing a 3x2 (3 parallel by 2 serial) wing of tactical bombers with escort fighters (as of a few months ago, I just didn't get the date). There was also a Nazi coup d'etat in the Free City of Danzig.

After being pressured by the Germans and Soviets, Lithuania has been annexed by Russia.

The Second World War has begun

This morning, in thick summer haze, Wehrmacht soldiers have crossed the Polish border and are commencing their attack. Danzig has been siezed, and German troops are pouring in through the Prussian exclave. The British and their allies (including us) have decided to aid Poland by declaring war on Germany. The press has already begun referring to this as the start of World War 2.

Poland won't last long. Now is the time to decide: do we move in and attack Germany, or prepare to hold the Maginot Line?

May I humbly re-propose the earlier idea of sending forces into Germany using the Swiss border to protect our flank?

Frankly I'm split. On the one hand, it's the perfect time to strike Germany. On the other hand, we got a defensive army with lots of infantry, and good fort. I'd hate to abandon that and assault the Siegfried line.

Whats the weakest spot of the line? Historically there seems to have been gaps to the NE of Maastricht... though how feasable pouring troops through there would be I do not know.

Note, that the German border with Switzerland has no such defence IRL. Now, I am not suggesting we do a "Belgium" on them to go around the German defensive line (or am I  8)?)... but is there no way of getting the Swiss to attack north, or for them to allow us to attack from thier territory?

I'd suggest attacking the Germans now. At the very least we should try and cripple some of their industry before any counter-attack.

This is a very awkward timing, especially WWII is happening two months earlier than history. If it was September, then I'd suggest moving in and taking the Rhineland and setting up for the winter, but with July... things could go awry so fast. Hmm.

I say move in and occupy the Rhineland, and take your troops out of the Benelux border. If things go right and we can set up a defence line starting from Zeeland across the Rhine, it'll be a miracle, and if things don't go as well as planned, we can strat.deploy our divisions the hell out of there.

No, but seriously, occupying the Rhineland and setting up defensive positions on the Rhine would do wonders, especially against German IC and their energy/coal supply.

Okeedoke. I didn't want to just jump head first into this, so I played on without saving until about mid 1941 (when the game crashed):

I would strongly suggest taking and holding Saarbroken ONLY.  There are three important reasons you want Saarbroken and Saarbroken only:

1) It produces 79-100 (it varies somehow) coal/energy, which is far more than any of the other surrounding provinces.
2) Provided the rest of your line holds, it can only be attacked by TWO provinces, ergo Germany doesn't get the encirclement advantage.
3) It is fortified, unlike provinces further into Germany, and thus easier for you to hold.

Idea: Let them enter the meatgrinder that is your fortified border. Pull in all of your troops from all other borders and outposts. Make friends with some countries and get them to slap the Germans around a bit. They shall not pass!

If we absolutely must retreat, make things hell for them. Scorch the earth, what have you. Get everything you can out of the European theater and husband your strength for its reclamation.

As much as it saddens me, launch an attack on Italy with the colonial troops.
Germany will have to intervene (If french troops are at least worthy of the name, not like the italian fascist ones) and lose men for the effort.

Well, that would also bring Italy at war with us. You should start moving as many troops as possible on the Libyan border though.

Oh, and invade Saarbrucken. That sounds like a good idea.
