Research Tanks.  Whatever tanks are not too far advanced.  I love tanks.

Pony tank was funny.  At first, I only saw the very top, and I was like "why are two ponies threatening?", then I scrolled down and saw the colossal tank they were driving.

I died a little inside when I posted that image.

No Hawk lobby.

Uhhh... Do you mean no hawk lobby as in "don't go with hawk lobby" or "no, go with hawk lobby"?

January 1st, 1938 (continued)

Aggressive war hawks within our government have been getting antsy, calling for war with Germany and intervention in the Spanish war.

February 27th, 1938

What. Why couldn't you just give us that before? The English have decided now would be the time to hand over their tank blueprints... We'll begin researching them ASAP.

Spoiler: ... (click to show/hide)

February 29th, 1938

Apparently, we've been researching it all along anyway, oh well, they helped us speed it up by a few days or something... In its place, we've begun expanding our nuclear research a little. Heavy tank brigade research is at around 30% and is way ahead of schedule (not to mention a year or two ahead of its historical research date).

Spoiler: Really. (click to show/hide)

April 14th, 1938

As our last infantry with medium tank division finishes up training, I've qued up some more divisions with light tank and artillery support.

Spoiler: More units (click to show/hide)

May 11th, 1938

The Germans have annexed Austria. A Nazi lead coup d'etat happened in Austria just a week or so ago, and the whole country has been signed over to the Germans in what they call the "Anschluss".

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

May 25th, 1938

In light of the Anschluss, we've put our troops on higher alert. The British are doing the same.

Spoiler: Prepare for war (click to show/hide)

August 16th, 1938

We've finished researching 1939 infantry improvements a year ahead of schedule. I'm going to lowing researching a little to allow our cash reserves to bounce back a bit.

November 17th, 1938

Black news today in Czechoslovakia. Black news indeed. The Germans have annexed a portion of their country, claiming it was to "liberate" persecuted Germans who were living on the Czech border. Hitler assures us the Munich "agreement" is his last territorial demand...

Hitler signing the Munich Agreement.

Is there any way to (openly) help the Czechs fight back?

It's not an invasion, more a racket. The Sudetenland is already part of Germany. We should really gear up for war, and draft a plan for a counter-attack on Germany as soon as they invade Poland.

Let's be...cautious.  Not entirely gearing up to crush Germany, but not entirely defenseless.

Let's roleplay this.

Well. IC, we know that Germany is fuckin' aggressive. We should at least move as many troops as possible toward the border, just in case.

Well, yes and no. The fact is that during the "Phoney War", they had all the time to bring in more troops, so the border was well defended, except for a large hole in the Ardennes.

Guess where the Germans attacked?

Anyway, I'm started to wrry we're doing the same mistake the French did IRL: tanks scattered in infantry units, a defensive army that can easily be overrun by the German blitzkrieg machine, not nearly enough aviations...

I know a lot of this is fixed by the game (Like, we can't really produce tank divisions yet), but it's still frightening.

Well let's hope belgium manages to hold their ground a bit longer this time. They really shouldn't have ignored the warning they got about the attack,

Well, I don't think Belgium ignored the warning, they had been building up since 1936. But they placed too much confidence on their forts, and are only a small army after all.

Well, I don't think Belgium ignored the warning, they had been building up since 1936. But they placed too much confidence on their forts, and are only a small army after all.
They got a warning from a german commander several hours before the attack, and had managed to capture invasion plans several months before. Nevertheless the gunposts where only lightly manned, and the germans managed to overrun them completly. (Though only 2 of the forts though, the others were bombarded). Two of the last three only surrendered when they ran out of ammunition, and the third only surrendered after 19 days of combat. (Which, considering Belgium surrendered after 18 days, is quite an achievement.)

This in turn endangered several other lines, forcing the belgian army to retreat, and retread, untill they suddenly found themselves in Brugge. If Eben-Emael hadn't fallen so quickly, the german blitzkrieg would have been severely delayed...

Edit: Then again, the complete lack of Anti-Air defenses would have killed the fort anyway

November 29th, 1938

3 infantry and light tank divisions are finished today. I'll move them into Strasburg on the border unless anyone has objections.

December 5th, 1938

We can now enact partial mobilization, allowing us to conscript more men into the army. I think the decision here is fairly obvious.

Our unit strength (the amount of men and vehicles that are in fighting shape) has increased.

Heavy tanks are finished, research has begun on field artillery and tank destroyers.

French troops celebrating the new year in the Rhineland.

At noon today, the Germans have fully annexed the Czech lands up to Slovakia, which they have released as a puppet regime. The national community will not stand for this.

---------------------
One last thing, I didn't realize this before, but for actual tank divisions that stand on their own we need "Armor Division Formation", which requires "Pre-Planned Defence" which we have been researching (at 35% currently). So we should see tank divisions by the end of the year, I hope...
