Should Germany  and Italy attempt to invade us now as a result of us preventing Spain falling to Facist opression, what are the odds of GB and the USSR aiding us against the Axis?

Send resources to help the Republicans in Spain.

France shall be the torchbearer for democracy.

By the way, is brown Spain nationalist Spain? As in, is Barcelona nationalist? Dafuq? Anyway, issue currency and take the lead in Spain. We need to send a clear message to the Fascists.

Being an Italian, I can't help but tremble at how the bay12 community is going to utterly crush those poor italians.
Although why not try and ally with Italy? So that, when Germany declares war, Italy maintains neutrality on the aspect?
(If history proves me right, Italy declared wars months after Germany, and was much battled on the argument, as all they had with Germany was a defensive agreement, and not an offensive one)
Still, if we do precisely as history dictates, where's the !!fun!!

Send resources, and prepare for Germany's attack.

Also, research tanks.  Yes, I know that tanks are useless in HOI, but they were historically significant.  France had great tanks in real life, they just sent them at the Germans piecemeat.  So, research defensive tactics also so we don't do that.

The lighter color Spain with less territory is the Nationalist one. They currently hold Madrid.

The British and their puppets would almost definitely help us, the Ruskies couldn't care less about us though until they sign the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact (which might not even happen).

I've seen Italy just completely sit out from the war before. But I'd think it would be pretty tough to raise relations with them, let alone get an alliance.

(I will continue to speak for the isolationists, :P )

intervening directly would be an injustice to our depleted manpower, we just suffered through the great war. Let us continue to focus on our own affairs. strengthen our defenses to deter any conflict. We can't afford to get involved!

Oh, and we need to open the floodgates to immigration.  We need the manpower.

And speaking of manpower, that is another good reason to push tanks.  One tank manned by four guys can kill off half a platoon, which is 30 men killed.  That is a good return on manpower invested!

Then I say get the troops into Spain and kick some facist ass. If it brings traditionally antagonistic Germany into war earlier and will drag the UK in on our side, what could go wrong?

that in the time we get the troops to spain, we'd have less to defend the country once the germans blitzkrieg us till Paris?

We should build a maginot line that actually covers the neutral states between us and germany, and avoid *"Oh look kilometers of concrete walls, let's just pass around it instead of charging suicidally for the fuhrer lolz!"
"damn mon general! They discovered how to walk around obstacles!"
"Mon dieu! They're evolving!"

Well, I changed my mind. We don't want Germany attacking us now (It's better to have the fight once they are in Poland). But we need to support the Spaniard, and get our troops some experience. Can we at least send "volunteers"?

July 22nd, 1936 (continued)

In response to a combination of aggressive actions by our neighbors and the civil war in Spain, we have decided to extend our subscription laws to 3 years of mandatory service for all able-bodied males. A series of extra fortifications have begun construction on the Belgian border, as well as industrial capacity in a few provinces.

In addition, production of infantry divisions with attached artillery and medium-tank brigades are under way and should be finished by November of 1937. Actual tank divisions won't be feasible until 1938-1940.

Spoiler: Unit production (click to show/hide)

Plan for an aid package is being developed, however it won't be able to be delivered any time soon because of lack of supplies (enacting conscription laws drained our reserves significantly). Therefore, troop upgrades will have to wait until we can produce enough supplies.

----------------

I still haven't unpaused the game, but I did some stuff. I've got to go out for a while, so leave some suggestions for when I get back. I plan to at least finish the year by then.

I doubt that Germany will so hastily storm through the low countries, and we can defend that border with our currently existing army. We have only recently received word that they have been breaking the terms of Versailles, so their army cannot contain much more than 100,000 men. We should deploy any and all troops not allocated to the expanding maginot line to the Spanish border. Perhaps we will be lucky and the forces of democracy will prevail against the fascists without our assistance, but should they face defeat we must assist.

August 25th, 1936

Nearly a month into the Civil raging just beyond our southern border, Nationalist forces seem to be holed up in Pyrenees and the Republicans have them cut off and surrounded in Madrid. Their diplomats tell us the fascist rebellion will be over before Christmas, I wouldn't be so sure just yet. We have relocated some mountaineer infantry to the border for precaution.

September 30th, 1936

The 3rd level of fortifications on the Belgian line have been built. We've detected an increase in spy activity from the Germans and Italians. Though none of their attempts have been successful yet.

October 10th, 1936

We have surprisingly raised enough money and supplies to intervene in the ongoing Spanish war. Although Madrid has fallen to the Republicans, Nationalists seem to be consolidating in the north-east. Our aid may be just enough for the Republicans to crush the Nationalists.

Spoiler: France sends aid (click to show/hide)

January 28th, 1937

The Republicans have won a crushing victory in Pamplona and have the remaining nationalist forces cornered in Barcelona. They are very grateful for our aid and volunteers.

Spoiler: The situation in Spain (click to show/hide)

February 27th, 1937

We may now count the Soviets among our enemies, for they have been secretly delaying the production of our state of the art 1936 infantry divisions. We will not forget this.

Spoiler: Soviet Bastards (click to show/hide)

April 1st, 1937

Now that the Republicans have re-established their border with us, we've begun moving our regular infantry divisions away from the adjacent province. In case the Nationalists gain more ground, mountain troops will be kept in the area.

--------

I've just realized how many garrison units we have in our colonies (mostly Africa), I'm thinking of using them to bolster the maginot line, cause who really cares about Africa anyway.
