Runestone Defense (free browser tower defense game)
« on: June 04, 2012, 12:39:12 am »

Hello.

I wrote a game, free to play in your browser (there's some ads, but I run adblock, and I can't fault you for doing the same), called Runestone Defense.  It's a tower defense game, written in Javascript, using the latest HTML5 browser advances.

I would greatly appreciate your feedback.

Thanks.

You have some pretty bad balancing issues.

For example the ONLY reason you would buy Arrow runes is because of their final upgrade (since otherwise Piercing towers are better in everyway EXCEPT that they have a terrible final upgrade).

Also I cannot see why you would build bomb towers

Its fine though. It took me a while to find out what Splash towers are even for (they are for rushing stages for high score)

There are only a few levels where bomb towers are good.

When I play my own game, I go Arrow, Piercing, and Poison.  Sometimes, web.  Of course, lots of Empty towers.  The arrow has great range when its fully upgraded. And fully upgraded is where it's at.

The first few levels are easy.  It gets harder after that.

Yeah I found out that it sort of reverses. I found the only time I thought of getting peircing is for early stages but otherwise it was completely overpowered by Arrow.

Also naw I found it all easy once you sort of get in the grove and realise how it is done. Lately I've been trying to see how many stages I can do at the same time and not lose life. My record is 4.

Also sorry. I realise I am being very harsh.

it's a nice little game, but maybe the skeletons are too fast, also a more smart target selection ai(or maybe the possibility to chose one) that choose the lowest health target instead of the nearest to the goal would be nice...

Desktop Tower Defense is one of my favorites.  The other 2 big standouts, to me, are Kingdom Rush and Gemcraft Labyrinth.  Those are the 3 best in a crowded genre, in my opinion.  If you like TD games and have not played those 3, go play them :)

Tried to give this a shot, once it loaded, I couldn't click anything, except the volume control, whcih did nothing but put a red box around it for some reason. Using chrome, presumably the newest version, I'm assuming it updates automatically. Also on windows 7.

Getting Poison IV was cheaper then Poison III. Intended?

Edit: Actually they both cost 130.

You should make it impossible to click next for the first second after the wave starts. It's really annoying when that happens...

Seriyu: Chrome does update automatically.  It sounds like what I get on my older Linux box.  It just can't keep up, it runs at 5 frames per second or close, so it can't register the mouse clicks.  Older computers, even with new software, just suck at running HTML5 games.

HTML5 / Javascript is still a pretty new technology, and not as well supported as I was led to believe when I started writing this game.  That said, it runs great on my newer Linux box, my 2009 MacBook Pro and my 2010 Windows 7 box, which has a medium CPU and a good graphics card.  It runs like crap on my iPhone 4s.

Rex_Nex: The poison tower (and the rest) are price to specific damage / sec / dollar ratios.

a1s:  you are not the first one to suggest that.   :)

Having undead as attackers reminds me of Defender's Quest. Still nifty though.
