This is such a good episode, I'm super hyped for the rest of season three. At the same time, this episode is hard to describe

No, really, there's spoilers inside.

This fucking episode, man. Status quo? What's a status quo? Rick breaking out of prison (okay, we were pretty sure that was going to happen, just not sure how (or even if it would be shown onscreen)), the Council of Ricks getting riggity riggity wrecked, the Federation government collapsing. And then the ending, the monologue from Rick to Morty. The stinger after the end (obligatory FUCK TAMMY) here.

This episode was amazing. Not really all that funny, like so much of the show has been, though there were a couple moments, and the humor there was was dark rather than absurd, mostly. Like, the show hits this low tone relatively frequently, but I feel like it never rides it for an entire episode. And it usually has higher highs when the lows get this low. I dunno, I hope it lightens up again later, but the ending makes me think it might not.

Now watch as the rest of season three doesn't air until June. That'd be the real April Fool's day joke.

I'm kinda disappoint that his big self-sacrifice from the previous season finale turned out to be nothing more than a ploy to get him into the government systems. Rick finally appeared to show a little bit of empathy and humanity, and it was actually all self-serving in the end. He even completely disregarded the fate of his original Beth and Summer and left them on the council station as it descended into chaos.

Also, what kinda of universal government keeps a supercomputer in their space-prison that can alter the valuation of their currency?

I hope we get a Darth Squanchy to team up with Phoenix-Person against Rick later this season.

as with all things Rick, I think it's a little of both--we can never really know if what he does is for himself or for his family, that's the magic.
