Creating wood
« on: June 03, 2012, 02:23:02 pm »

So, i edited my raw's accoring to http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Cheating#Create_Wood

And i don't really know where is the command to acually order some free wood. I can't find it in smelter, or carpernter's workshop. I acually wanted to make above-ground dwarven village and this would help me a lot.

Could anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance.

Did you put it in the right RAW?

To be more specific, have you embarked already?  If so, make sure you put the changes in your save's raws too.  Those would be found under the objects directory in your save directory.

Yep, i put this into reaction_smelter.

Also, going to put this into save raws, as advised above

I checked the save raw's and the added part was already there, so thats not the case.

First of all you can't add new reactions to world that has already been generated.

Secondly, you need to put the following line in the entity_default.txt file, under the MOUNTAIN section:
[PERMITTED_REACTION:FREE_WOOD]

Without that the game doesn't give dwarves that reaction even if it exists.

You know, they could teach maths like this at school. "There are 105 dwarves in a settlement. A goblin invasion appears and 67 die. Then a migrant wave..."

I have put this into entity_default, as you said and generated a new world. This still does not work. Looks like i will have do this the hard way and chop/trade for that wood. Anyways... any more suggestions?

Edit : i saw you already search there :) , as already said , entity default is important. Normally , it sould work if you did like the wiki. Post how you modify the reaction smelter. I think people should help your more with more detail.

Modify one of the existing smelter reactions.  Choose one that you don't expect to ever use.  Don't change the tag.  Just change the name, reactants, and products.  Restart the save and the new reaction will be there.

If you wanted to be a little less-cheaty about it, here's what I did:

I created a new plant type called "Rubber plant" and gave it to all biomes.  I then created a new tree type called "Plywood" that grew in no biomes.  Require that the "Create Wood" reaction requires one rubber tree and three of some plant type such as plump helmets. The reaction of four plants created one "plywood log" at the "wood chipper" workshop that I created.  (For more details on how to create new plant entities, reactions and workshops, check the wiki or the mod forum, my mods are long lost to the mists of time...)

It helped me work with wood in areas that were very wood sparse, yet didn't really feel like I was "cheating" since I was still had to grow and utilize resources before I was actually able to start manufacturing plywood.

I don't understand, though that is about right with anything DF related.
