Setup
-----------------
I have only one copper axe.
I created militia and added dwarfs with axe skill.
Wood cutting labour dwarf was skilled with axe combat.

Problem

I did order trees to be cut. However my only axe was with my axedwarf who was training.

I unscheduled training. Did not help.

I removed barracs, that helped. My axeman went idle to meeting hall with the axe.

Solution

Then i removed axe ( from military - equipment ) from the axedwarf. He dropped it but next military axedwarf picked it up. So, i removed weapons for all my military.

That worked, my previous axedwarf who was woodcutter picked it again and started to work!

Dunno if this should work smoother - e.g. idle dwarf could give equipment for workers automatically.

Its not really a bug, but annoying.

If a woodcutter has the axe equipped the military should not be able to get it, but if the military already have it then your woodcutter won't have access to it. You have to tell all your military not to use axes in that case and even then I don't know. It has to get back into the stockpile before the wood cutter gets to use it. I usually bring two axes to any embark just in case.

there is also a sort of bug where woodcutters who are also in the military may refuse to wear armor or refuse to cut wood. Wood cutting has it's own 'uniform' which tells him to drop other uniforms - the military one in this case. So when active military he picks up all his armor, but when going inactive he'll drop it again (I think, let's keep it at 'it doesn't work')

the same goes for mining and hunting
