Okay, a rock just arrived into my peaceful fortress site. Do they actively seek out my dwarves?

Rocks are rarely hostile, and easily defeated with the proper application of a pick-axe.

Rocs, on the other hand, will probably devour your dwarves.

You could try to catch it with cage traps. I'd imagine a pet Roc would be !!FUN!! for your Goblin visitors.

:D Propably would. It's chasing one of my cats around (good riddance), and there's a cage trap zone nearby (I use them to spot and capture ambushers when they're still far away). Hopefully it flies there. Taming rocks, however, doen't seem to work. They just sit around like they didn't really care...

The ROC was killed pretty easily by two axedwarves... Not fully grown?

Check the combat report. Any lucky hits?

Nope, luck didn't matter. The Roc tried to attack the other one, who blocked and then spilled the roc's guts around. The roc then gave in to pain, and the soldiers hacked it's head for a while. Eventually the skull was broken and the brains shattered. So, if this was a full-grown roc, I don't know what the fuss is about. But I'd guess it wasn't adult yet. I mean, some trolls give me more trouble than this one...

If your dwarf spilled it's guts in the first swing, that's a lucky shot.

Well, I'd suppose so. Altough I checked the legends, and it seems the roc was only 6 years old.

Yup, it was a juvenile then.  Rocs don't reach full size until they're 20 years old.

I did get a load of meat from it though, about 800 meals. Better start crafting pots.

SELL THEM ALL! They are worth like 15 times more than normal meat. Sell 1 of those for 15 of others.

Nope, I actually need that meat, since I have 200+ mouths to feed and cave spider traps to bait. Some variation to the usual plump helmet roast. :D

That's what I'm saying... Sell the meat for more meat.

But surely no amount of lesser meats can beat the fine taste of a plump helmet stuffed with roasted roc! Besides, I think the next dwarven caravan comes after 3 seasons. AND I have about 200 gold crafts (serioulsy), each could by all the meat a caravan has :D.
