Mario Kart Grand Prix-Kirby Open
« on: June 02, 2012, 05:24:17 am »

The Mario Kart Grand Prix is a prestigious event. Thousands upon thousands of people come to see it every year, and none are dissapointed. People enter the ranks and get either spat out or rise to the top of fame and fortune. But what about those who do not wish to bother with all of the glitz, the glamour, the backstage, and just want to do what they know how to do the best-race? Fortunately, there is a medium for people in that catagory. Named after a certain pink spherical character who is reported to have given a hi-five to a certain blue-hatted Boo, the Kirby Open still gets a few followers, but all are only interested in one thing-the racing.

The rules are exactly the same as in the Grand Prix-racers from around the world take to the grid, and the first person to go around the track enough times is declared the victor. Here, however, there are no prizes, no backstage shenanigens, heck, there isn't even an entry fee. Karts are freely supplied by donators, although modules are allowed to be installed provided they are supplied by the racers. It's basically all about the racing, and that's how it really should be.

Rules heartily stolen from Monk12.

Failing my ability to miss something obvious, I think we should be alright. If you have a character form MKGP, post here to get a chance of claiming a spot. If you don't have a character there, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR.

OOC: This also might be a good place to test out new hiccups, improvements and items you guys think? Anyway, posting to watch/help, since I just did my race. What do you guys think of these? :D

Mysterious Benefactors makes offers to Kirby Open!
With the upcoming seasons highly regarded Kirby Open cup, also comes the attention of many of the industries top engineers, researchers and speculative sponsors-all of which use the no risk competition to scout up and coming ace drivers, and test out the newest and hottest equipment, before it receives the go ahead to enter into the MKGP officially....here's a sneak preview!

Bullet Bill The player turns into a streaking Bill, heedless of all danger! They Gain THREE Momentum, but taking a temporary penalty of THREE to hazard checks. A better use if for sneaky attacks-opponents rammed while in Bullet Bill mode lose TWO momentum and cannot oppose you on the passing check. The Rammed driver must make an immediate Racing Check to avoid flipping, losing additional Momentum.

Golden Mushroom As the normal mushroom but, more powerful-and Golden! Lasts 1d3 turns

POW Block A heavy block strikes all racers in the track-requires excellent reflexes to avoid. All enemy Karts must pass a hazard check of (+4) or be flipped, losing TWO momentum.

Pokeball/ Releases an extra tough combat Pokemon from the labs of Silph Co. The pokemon is random-and chooses it's targets at will, before being safely auto-returned to the ball and picked up on the track afterwards.

Roll one d2, and and then d6. The D2 determines if the target is the person in front or behind you, if applicable. The D6 determines the amount of momentum lost if the pokemon attack hits-being a spinout, flip or knocked into air, respectively. This attack ignores any defense bonuses, except for defensive driving. Optional-roll a 1d604 to determine pokemon is released!

Super Leaf/ Creates a Tanooki tail on the back of players Kart-it can be used to strike away incoming shell attacks from the rear (with a +2 to resist bonus), or used to attack players directly behind you, or who fail a pass check. A driver hit by the Tail flips, losing TWO Momentum. The tail vanishes once it's used THREE times in this matter, for attack or defense-or, if the driver is struck by an attack.

Fire Flower A quick munch of the rare Incenderius Magnoliophyta turns your character into a fireball slinging pro!

Fireballs are thrown forward, and can strike up to three racers ahead of the Player. Striking the racer directly ahead you requires them to make a racing check at -3 to avoid, two places ahead, a -2, etc. You have three Fireballs to toss in this manner, and can throw as many as you wish in a turn.

A driver hit by one Fireball spins out, losing ONE Momentum-a player hit by two fireballs in one round flips, losing TWO Momentum! A player hit by all three additionally loses any item they were holding, and has a chance of developing a 25% chance of developing Hiccup.

Super Koopaball An odd weapon, to be sure!

The player flings a weighty Koopaball at any opponent in their segment-targeted Karters must make a racing check of +1 or be flipped, losing TWO momentum If the opponent passes, they catch the ball and must immediately throw it at a new target, or dispose of it harmlessly-and can choose any other racer in their segment likewise. Thusly, the racing check to avoid the Koopaball increases by a further +1, for every racer after the first it's tossed to! Multiple Koopaball thrown at the same person also increase the check by +1 per ball.

Finally, If any player passes the final toss of the ball (a +6 driving check), they win the Chargin' Chuck Champion Baller bonus-+1 Fame and +1 Coin, regardless of the races outcome. This can be awarded to multiple racers, but only one such bonus can apply.

I (Pikachu) am in. My application is in the other thread. Also I like the idea of using more items, as it would increase the feel of the series.

I just posted up-to-date rules in the main thread, so you may want to update. Any questions now or in-race, ask away!

RE: Additional items- I've certainly got nothing against trying out new items in here, and the Pokeball in particular has potential; thinking about it actually made me ponder an alternate Item system, to use or ignore as you see fit.
Spoiler: Tiered Item System (click to show/hide)

....actually, want to throw me on the waitlist in here? One of the sad things about GMing is that you never get to play your own games, and a driver-perspective view of the action might help with running it.

More items:

One-up shroom
Heals one Hiccup

Yellow shell
This shell might be hurtled against one player either backward or forward. This player will recieve a -2 to his dodge roll. The shockwave of the shell's impact will hit both the persons before and after the target. They get a -1 to dodge. Players hits by the yellow shell flip out and loose one momentum

Fattening apple(Or Whatever those things from warioland were called)
This thing adds a significant amount of mass to your car. When used, you gain an automatic -2 to racing rolls/ loose 2 momentum. However, thanks to the added mass your ramming capability works better. Ramming actions gets a +1 modifier and create a shockwave, which the person before and behind the 2 involved people most roll a +2 dodge roll to avoid. Every enemy pass action counts as a ramming check for you against them, though the modifier doesn't apply.

Random item
What's better then not knowing what something is till you activate it.

Yeah, the waiting list for the main thread is like, 20 persons deep and we get not enough sign-ups here?

O_o

Count me in. It'd be nice if we got some people who weren't also currently racing.

Racer: Little Mouser
Module: Free Item
Bio: Skittish, aggressive racer with Kleptomaniac tendencies-Kart modified to carry extra loot. Reputed to be racing under duress, to pay off outstanding debts to some 'unsavory' types.

Luckily, there is a perfectly good explanation for my absence. I went on holiday straight after making this thread, thinking I would get an internet connection where I was. Guess how right I was. Anyway, I'll copy over the new stuff and do some random selections and post here soonish.

((For those interested, I'm in a pub which has free wifi. Yaaaaaaaaay))
