Shops ripping you off?
« on: June 02, 2012, 12:00:36 am »

So I just traded all my weapons, most of my food, and some of my clothing for an iron long sword... and no iron long sword appeared in my inventory.  I suspect it may be because one of the items I traded was a backpack I made with custom adventure reactions (since Toady was kind enough to ensure we'll never find one in a store), and the sword was assigned to the backpack during the transfer.  Don't see it anywhere in the store's stocks though.

I'm going to make a temporary summon sword reaction so it's no big deal, but I wanted to know if this is a known issue.

Or is it intended behavior that we have Dwarven businesses that emulate Blizzard?

EDIT:  Crap.  Reactions can't be added to existing worlds.  So, looks like I'll have to just sneak into the local keep or temple, negating the entire purpose of visiting the shops.

I'm going to remember that dwarf weaponsmith's name, and when I become a necromancer, I'm going to visit him, and I'll bring a new backpack and new goods I acquired from hunting.  A platypus corpse, perhaps.

Diso Faintpuzzles was born in 120.  Although accounts vary it is universally agreed that Diso was chosen by fate as the vanguard of destiny.

In the early spring of 143 Diso began wandering the wilds.

In the early spring of 143 Diso starved to death in the Horn of Striking.

You can change existing reactions.

At the moment nobody even notices when you pick their stuff up and take it with you, so.

In that case, then...

If you buy something it doesn't appear in your inventory.
You must find it in the shop and pick it up after you payed.

I know that's how it used to be, but every time I've bought something in this version, it automagically appears in my inventory.  Even so, I checked the shop.

Yeah, that isn't necessary anymore. They take any items and money you offer, and give you the items you bought as any other game now.

I've been ripped off a more conventional way,  I use adventure mode reactions to emulate the crafting of objects from pebbles I pick up off the ground(Ignoring size and weight) and decorating them with more pebbles.  Some of the pebbles I found were semi-precious gemstones, that when cut yeilded more than I picked up.  Also I picked up as much as I could carry, more always appearing in the same spot.

Burdened with this wealth I stop to shop for some supplies, knowing how much the crafts I made and the supplies I wanted were.  The shopkeeper wasn't satisfied with just a little profit, he wanted all my gems and some of my decorated crafts in exchange for what I wanted.

Also a good reaction to modify is the knapping reaction.  When embarking in a world that gave me a halbard when I put points into whip, I used the knapping reaction to give me a whip made of the rock material in addition to the sharp rock.  (So it was easier to change it back)

Maybe that the dwarves never died and everyone is just shunning them.
"Wait, what are you doing?  I don't want to go in there!  No, I'm still alive, you can't do this to me!  Is Anybody listening?  Hello... Can someone let me out?  Help me!  Is anyone there?  I'm running out of air!"

The solution is simple: STEAL EVERYTHING!

That'll teach 'em.

And when they chase after you because they want their stuff back, kindly return items one-by-one via air mail, addressed to their heads.
