Random dwarves getting farming experience?

Anybody know what's causing this? I mean I'm not complaining but it seems kind of weird. (and I might want to exploit it for other skills :D)

Could it possibly be caused by them picking crops from the farm plot? Because, I think, all dwarves have have that labour enabled.

You can stop that by toggling Dwarves All Harvest to Only Farmers Harvest in the standing orders menu, if you want.

What he said.  In the o)rders menu you have "all dwarves harvest" enabled.  This is causing small amounts of xp for every dwarf that harvests a plant.  You can change it to only growers harvest if you'd like.  That will cause your farmers to skill-up faster, although it's not really a noticeable difference.

since most my fort is busy, this usually means for me that children get to skill 4 before they grow up, or higher
