[If you would like to blow a spell on another "figure it out" attempt, you are certainly welcome to do so. A +7 is nothing to sneeze at.

Really, though, this is pretty weak as far as riddles go. :P ]

(The thing with riddles is that it's pretty easy for the one who came up with it, but its kinda hard to grasp your thought process.

Also I don't really know how to answer. Do I offer him carrots? Do I say "Are you a rabbit"? Am I completely wrong in this train of thought?

*shrug*)

"Was the heir thing a pun on rabbits?"

"Why, of course!"

Wes Spring has joined your party!

He smiles at you and rises to his feet. You notice that he has some pretty big legs, and ask if he was making a rabbit joke.

"I was, in fact! The circumstances leading to my birth are long and convoluted, but the easiest explanation is "faerie father's fertility powers" and "my mother was a bunnygirl" and "Lots of alcohol was involved." Try not to think about it too hard, you'll give yourself a headache."

You think about how on earth such a circumstance could possibly have happened, but your head starts hurting, so you stop.

"Camels. Gonna need them. And an escort would be nice... there is a caravan leaving tomorrow morning for some unpronounceable city in the desert. You... should be dressed as befits your station. I'm certain that the humble merchants of the Thahab Trading Guild would hire a mercenary wizard and swordsman for protection. From there, we can actually find the dragon."

You stare at him more.

"What? It's not as though you'd just find it on a map. He's a dragon, with many lairs and a large range limited only by the OTHER dragons. And... well, now what? There's a lot to do in the city. I, for one, am fond of the many fine whorehouses. Who knows? Maybe you can find a smith for that sword of yours. I know some smugglers who will give you a fair and reasonable rate for your gold..."

But what about the language problem of us not speaking the speaking that most of the town is speaking?

He speaks the language, as you heard him order a drink... unless that was in the post that got deleted (thank you, ATT and 2Wire, for hijacking my browser, great service you have there) in which case it is TOTALLY my fault I didn't say it.

Either way, you have your guide.

I'd say take him up on that smithy offer.

After a while of searching, you finally encounter the ONE weaponsmith in the city who is capable of working with your sword. He seems quite interested in the work, but cannot do anything right now without having Meteoric Iron, Red Steel, and a Major Runestone. He suggests that you can find a Runestone in some of the bigger pyramids, that Meteoric Iron is uncommon but findable given enough time (and that a meteor shower was predicted for the upcoming week). He has no idea where one can possibly find Red Steel, but Wes seems to handwave that away, even though he refuses to elaborate on where and how it can be found.

In the meantime, however, he offers to sell his wares to you at a fair price in exchange for gold. After all, he can melt it down himself; no need to go waste money changing it. He sure seems to have a lot of apprentices, weapons all over the walls, some armor here and there, and his senior wife apparently runs an apothecary out of their courtyard.

We really need more suggestions but I can't think of any at the moment.

Suggestions?

1. Go try to trade for Meteoric Iron
2. Become a "mercenary" and join the caravan
3. Ask for a lesson in swordsmanship
4. Ask Wes about his background
5. WHORES
6. Drink more
7. Wander around looking for trouble to kill and loot
8. Sneak aboard caravan

You exchange your Leather Armor and 40 gold coins for a Chainmail Shirt.

The owner attempts to point you at knives and swords, and pinches at your arm before offering you a Morningstar. He does not seem to be too confident of your ability to wield it, but it can't be THAT different from a half-brick-in-a-sock, can it?

Get a steel chain sock, with a steel brick. Then go and try to find meteoric iron.

You confer with Wes about such a weapon.

"That honestly sounds kind of stupid, but he could probably make you a chain sock and stick a metal ball at the end..."

Dick.

You ask anyway, and the shopkeeper simply laughs at you. After examining a few more weapons, you and Wes leave to head towards the market, and look for dark alleyways and trouble in the process.

[DM note: First off, what the hell is with the Dungeons and Dragons dice roller, this game, and natural 20's? Second off...]

Obviously, trouble finds you in the form of what is either a very large and unlikely City Watch, or a crew of rag-tag mercenaries - brigands, more like it. There's only twenty of them, but they are all well-equipped indeed. He points at you, then at your bag, and makes a throat-slitting gesture.

Welp. Pretty obvious what THAT means. You glance at Wes, who seems completely at ease with the situation, if not amused. That's well and good for him, wearing his armor and having a shield and a sword, and being able to run really really fast. Not so much you, with your brick in a sock and being able to run really fast.

Now what?
