22nd of Malachite, 102 S.B.S.I ordered the first workshops to be constructed. It means that we finally have some kind of masonry, two crafting places and carpentry working. Also the first stockpile, reserved for trading goods, is finally finished. I don't even want to think how long it will take from our miners to finish up with all the storage rooms...
6th of Galena, 102 S.B.S.Furniture stockpile is finally ready. With the speed like this it will take two to four months before all the remaining stockpiles are ready. And that's too slow for my taste. I think I have to remind our miners again what will happen to them if they don't work faster.
11th of Limestone, 102 S.B.S.It's autumn already and our miners are still working on storage areas. I think I have to go down there once more and show the bloody whip I happened to find nearby, probably left behind by goblins. And no, we haven't seen one yet, the whip I wound was somewhat ancient and rusty. But it still inflicts enough pain when used to the backs of lazy workers.
Speaking of miners, so far we have storage rooms for trading goods, furniture, leather and cloth. The progression isn't what I like or hoped for.
19th of Limestone, 102 S.B.S.We received another group of migrants today. Four dwarves and no pets came this time. Two fishers, one animal handler who also knows few tricks about cleaning wounds and one strand extractor. In other words, nothing interesting. Well, I think we should build a fishery or two now so that the skills of the two dwarves doesn't get wasted.
13th of Timber, 102 S.B.S.Good thing we built that depot few months ago. A caravan from mountain home arrived this morning.
With the caravan also came the liaison, a dwarf who has never took a step outside the comfort and safety of great halls.
So, first I met the merchants. Apparently they are the descendants of the very first group of merchants that left the mountain home over one hundred and two years ago. As we are the very first outpost outside the mountains they made me an offer; for all our rock crafts they are willing to give all the booze they have, metal bars, bronze battle axe and bronze war hammer. I think that's a good deal, war hammer will be reserved for the future hammerer and axe is for the poor soul who becomes our second carpenter.
After the trading was done I met the liaison.
The fat lady was unimpressed by our progress, which isn't a surprise. After all we don't have even basic dining hall ready yet! She demanded to see our miners and cave them a lecture of year. I think those bruises are going to last months.
When we actually got down to business I realized she didn't actually bring any important messages or orders from queen. She was here just to learn our situation. A task she kept complaining about all the time she was here. Good thing she has already far away. If the nobles in mountain home are now even close like her I don't think I want to return. Complaining and not actually doing anything important. Even if I complain all the time I at least try to do something about it! Oh well, back to the planning. I hope we get stockpiles ready before the year comes to an end.
20th of Timber, 102 S.B.S.I decided to make Baran, the migrant with a bit of knowledge about treating wounds, to our chief doctor. I'm not expecting any kind of brain surgery from him but at least I can point someone when somebody complains about wounds or scratches.
Of course we don't have any kind of hospital yet but that's something which will be solved later.
27th of Timber, 102 S.B.S.Curse it! A kobold was spotted near the stairs!
Unfortunately, even though she was standing right next to the filthy bugger, Nix was unable to to catch it and it was able to escape.
When we get more migrants we must definitely start constructing some kind of shelter around the entrance. Right now it's too open for thieves.
1st of Moonstone, 102 S.B.S.Another filthy bugger was spotted near our entrance.
Again the thief was able to escape. I'm kind of expecting third one any moment now.
6th of Obsidian, 102 S.B.S.Finally all the storage rooms are ready! It took what, ten months? Originally the plan was to move on the workshop floor next but I think we shall skip that and move directly to basic facilities. And with those I mean dining hall, my office and a place where we can sleep. After those we can focus on workshops.
Why this change of plan? The reason is that I have heard few complains already, especially about missing beds. And if I want to get out of here alive I need to keep my workers content enough so that they won't mob me down.
28th of Obsidian, 102 S.B.S.The first year is coming to an end. One year I have been living in this dump. And what have we achieved? We have farms running and storage rooms for almost everything. Besides that? Well, I have my quarters ready and the public dining hall is under construction as well as dormitory which will serve as hospital as well.
We have fourteen dwarves living down here and five animals. Our food supplies are good so there should be no worries about starvation or dehydration. Otherwise, well, we haven't been too productive yet. I hope this will change soon enough.
What about my personal plans? It seems like the queen is still holding on with the attitude of "You live there and you die there!". But Armok hear my words, one day I will leave this hole we should be calling home and return to mountain home. Even our queen can't prevent that! I just need to find a way to do so without risking my precious beard.
