The weaponized bee thread
« on: May 30, 2012, 02:51:58 am »

So this is the continuation of a derailment of this thread http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=105981.msg3143201#msg3143201

It was originally a question about keeping beehives from building destroyers, but turned into a question about making bees ruthless killing machines that kill everything but dwarves. So far we have bees with steel stingers that cause paralysis and bleeding, but do not effect dwarves.

Post more suggestions!

Adamantine stingers would be more effective. Also, give them super speed and probably something along the lines of [LIKES_FIGHTING].

Will it not kill dwarves then those bees are just vermin on the map?

The material of stings does not mater as long as they are vermin biters.

Here's the current raws. Dwarves are unharmed because they are immune to the poison. Also, they have a speed of 3900.

Also, they have a speed of 3900.

Which is pretty goddamn slow. 900 is the average, 600 is fast enough that the average could never hope to outrun them.

You should add swelling with severity 1000 as well, we all love ballooney goblins. Also, they're bees, what did the gobbos expect?

Actually, you should probably use the newer syndromes to make the hit invader berzerk and increase size massively, so you don't have to rely on chance alone for an invader squad to be taken out. Once one gobbo is hit, he should take out the rest of his squad and die afterwards.

Is it possible to take his ability to move, but not his fighting ability?

We could paralyze his feet. Or cause them to melt off via necrosis.

This does have the side effect of making him fall down though, dampening his fighting ability substantially. Also it doesn't actually prevent him from moving, just makes him move slower. So as an answer for the previous question, yes, the framework to do it is there; but currently we aren't able to add the required tag ([IMMOBILE]) that would need to be added.

You could, however, turn them into an immobile creature that can still fight.  Like a tree, which would be the ultimate irony if elves are making trouble...
Or you could simply cause them to explode.
Or cause them to explode into a material with a breathable syndrome that causes its victims to also explode, etc..  (Little Doctor, anyone?)
Ah, the joy of syndromes...

Wouldn't crazed cause them to kill each other?

Correct. Which is what EvilTwin was suggesting.

I think exploding bees are too much:) BIG swelling with a lot of pain could be cool - and also a bit of paralisis. BTW - a lot of bees will actually kill a man with their poison...... A LOT OF BEES though;) So maybe add a liiiiiiiiitle necrosis:)
