A sparrow is pecking at my window
« on: May 29, 2012, 06:31:51 am »

For like last two weeks, every day almost all day (just takes food breaks I guess). It's really starting to annoy me now. The worst part is how it wakes me up like half an hour before my alarm goes off, and just as I manage to fall back to sleep it's time to get up and get ready for work.

Anyway, can anyone explain this strange behaviour? Should I hire a cat or an exorcist?

The sparrow has chosen you, DJ, as its God.  Use this power wisely, for fowl deeds await!

Find some more sparrows and get them to poke at different parts of the window for different tones.

Then form a band.

I approve of this suggestion.

I hate birds in the mornings so very much. Need to get myself some sound-cancelling headphones.

Most likely, it's seeing its own reflection, and reacting to that. You can either try to scare it off, or put something there to block the reflection; kinda hard to do without taping stuff to the outside of your window. From the inside, you could maybe try a piece of white paper? It won't remove the reflection, but it should make it harder for the sparrow to see it. Do not use black paper for the inverse reason.

The sparrow is the ghost of future you, having traveled in the past to warn yourself of the events that resulted in you dying and your soul migrating to a sparrow. But since you won't open the damn window, guess you're just going to have to find out the hard way.

Do the reincarnation rules allow him to inhabit a body from a point in time previous to when he died, or did he invent time travel as a sparrow?

I changed my mind. Forget the noise-cancelling headphones, it's sparrow hunting time.

Better hope it's not the soul of a loved one coming to try and warn you. Wouldn't YOU feel silly?

Buy two cat statutes: one in a sleeping pose and one in a sitting pose. Make sure they look like the same cat in different positions.

Start out putting the sitting cat statute in your window, preferably on a cat bed or something else soft but stable (so the damn thing won't tip over).
Some days, or times of day, remove the cat statute from the window entirely. Other times, just have the sleeping cat statute laying there. Mix it up so the bird won't get wise to the act.

That seemed to scare the wood pecker off my window ledge/siding.

Alternatively, get a real cat for less stone and more cuddles? :)

Better yet, Poe had a Raven rapping at his door, you've a sparrow. Somehow also become immortal from an avian visitor?

I tried opening the window before, and even leaving it open for extended periods of time while I was out of the room. AFAIK it didn't enter

Also, there seems to be a fair bit of bird poo smeared on my window. I think I'm gonna go with an exorcist.

Try putting up a mirror near the spot. A good quality mirror would probably keep its attention more than the faint reflection on the window.

Mount a spring loaded boxing glove up near the window. Teach that little fucker who's boss with an uppercut! :P
