How do I take something OUT of a bin?
« on: May 28, 2012, 05:55:19 pm »

H'Ok

So for my Artifacts, I prefer to see them, usually I make multi use stockpiles for Legendaries only in a suitable grand location.

In a new fort I, sadly, forget to turn off BINS on it and my collection of a half dozen or so items where tossed into one.
So... How do I take them out to put them back on display?

Disable the stockpile and create a new one somewhere else that accepts artifacts but not bins?

Artifact display is a good reason to install the Display Case mod.

I deconstructed the stockpile from under the bin they where put in.
but they sit there, no one has taken them out.

Also, is there a way to dictate what Material Bins to use for other stockpiles?
Like, if I want some to use Lead Bins but others wood?

The bins need to be in a stockpile so someone can access their contents.  Make a small stockpile just large enough to hold the bins.  Wait for them to get put there.  Then make the real stockpile that does not use bins.  Turn off artifact quality items in the stockpile with bins.  The artifacts will be moved.

Make a garbage dump next to the bins and mark all the artifacts for dumping. Dwarves will then remove them from the bins and stack them in the dump. Then reclaim them and they should get moved to your 0 bin artifact pile.

I don't think that's true Bilantri.

You can dump the -bins-, but the artifacts won't dump. Can't even mark them for dumping. (At least, last time I tried.)

Hmm...it works for other items. Must be unique for artifacts. Frustrating.

Wait for a caravan to arrive, then order the bin to be hauled to the depot. All of the artifacts will be left sitting on the floor.

The same trick works with Forbidden items inside containers, as seen with the method of removing unwanted water from buckets.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
